He said: 'Scientifically as well as superstUioasly the earth is supposed to be at its centre a molten mass, the temperature being gradually lowered as we approach the surface where Yegetable and animal life are sustained. This, we hare reason to holiete, from the sinking of Artesian wells., From a depth of two or three thousand feet, we are enabled to bring boiling water to the surface. Some one, a scientist, I believe, has said that the earth's crust is, relatively speaking, as thin as the shell of an egg. This comparison may be ] quite hyperbolical. The first fall was at 7.30 o'clock that morniog and the second at about 11 o'clock. They appeared to fall in a slantiog direction, from South to North. There are morsels of flint among them and all are plainly abraided and worn by the aetion of water. Some few hare sharp fractures, and have evidently been recently broken. C., Aug. 80ih, 1880. / WHEREAS, a petition has been filed with the County Commissioners of Union County, signed by a majority of the freeholders of Bogansville Township, of Union County, in accordance with the provisions of an Aot of the General Assembly of South Carolina approved the 20th day of December 1884, entitled an Act to incorporate the Glenn Sf rings Railroad Company, asking that the question of subscription or no subscription of the sum of twenty thousand dollars to capital stock of said company, which subscription shall be made in coupon bonds of said township, bearing six per cent interest and payable in 16, 20 and 25 years after the dote thereof, as provided by said Aot, be submitted to the qualified electors of said Township, And further,tlint the said rood do run through the Mid township bj the way of West Springs ; and further that the funds realised on Mid bonds to be expended exclusively in the oonetruotloa of said railroad within the limit* or Mid township. And whereas, the said Commissioners hare by a resolution of their Board fixed the amount proposed to be subeoribed according to the request of Mid petition, at twenty thouMnd dollars in six per cent, coupon Bonds of said township; said Bonds to be made payable in installments of six thousand dollars ' in 16 years, and in equal installments 61 seven thousand dollars in 20 and 25 years after the date thereof, as provided in said Act.
