Trial Justice and Sheriff, who gave bond iif the
huiii uf three hundred dollars. Warrants were
issued for thirly-lwo negroes by Justices Agncw I
and Ford. These negroes are charged with riot.*
On the day of election a hand of armed negroes
paraded through the streets creating a great j
disturbance, and when the Xlicrilf attempted to j
arrest the ringleaders they assaulted him, but
bo succeeded in arresting them and lodging
thein in the guard house, t'halfuld. in hehalf
uf the radicals, promised that if these negroes j
were liberated no white citizens ??f Aiken t'oun- J
ly should he arrested hy United Stales authorities.

paper, in which lie abuses our people, lie says
publicly that if we would treat the negroes as
ycntlnmn there would be no more trouble in the
South, and that the United Stales government
has made a great mistake in not disfr.anchi-ing
all the white people of the South for twenty
years. 1 do not think our young men should
be blamed if they give hint a genteel cow hi ling.

the South. These men poison the minds of the
ignorant negroes and cause them to do many
deeds of violence that lltey would not otherwise
