A Holocaust or Houses.?Grccubricr White
Sulphur .Springs, Va., August 1.?About 2 o'clock
this morning a fire broke out in the stables
belonging to the Springs Company located sonic
four hundred yards west of the main hotel.?
There were at the time forty-six horses in the
stables, only two of which escaped. Forty-four
horses, twenty of which belonged to the Springs
Company, and the remaining twenty-four to
guests here, were burnt. The fire was accidental
and is supposed to have been the result of
carelessness on the part of some of the colored
servants. The building being an obi one and
intended to be replaced by a new structure was
uninsured. No alarm was given and only a few
of the guests were aware of the contlagratiou
urn 11 mis morning, lite building being lull of
combustible material, burned so rapidly that an
opportunity lo cut the horses loose was not afforded.
Among the losers were Mr. Corcoran, of
Washington, who had three horses in the stable,
(Sen. Anderson, Col. Carrington, of Richmond,
and a number of others. Arrangements
have been made for a supply of new horses immediately,
so that the business or pleasure of
guests will not be interrupted.
