Crealin, white, wife of a tenant on the farm of William A. Couover, was walking along the path near the New Jersey South Railroad track, she was set upon by George Corney, a burly negro, who dragged her into the woods and outraged he#- after she had - fainted^ .The miscreant was captured last night '-end looked up, narrowly escaping being lynched. '' * \ Negro Attempts a Rape Upon a Little Girl.?Nashville, Tenn., July 22.?Yesterday afternoon John Houston, colored, attempted a rape upon a six yeaf oM daughter of Jason Kennan, Jr., about four miles West of Shelby ville, Tennessee. He was arrested by the child's lather and several neighbors. While in custody at Kenuan'a house last light, a party of masked -? men came and took Houston out, carried him ?nlf a mile down the pike and hanged him.? The negro had been in the penitentiary. An Escaped Convict Outbaoes and Murders .A Colored Uirl.?Louisville, July 22.?Intelligence reached this city at a late hour last night that a convict named Vonderhide, belonging here, escaped from the penitentinry at Frankfort Tuesday morning. At Brownsboro yesterday morning he met in the field Rebecca Johnson, (colored girl,) aged Id years, whom he outraged nnd murdered. After killing the child he threw her *>ody into a ravine aad covered it with stones. The parents missing her began a search, and in <-n short time found her body by aid of a dog.? Vonderhide was captured iu the vicinity. A Colored Girl Found with iikr Jaw Broken and Wounds on her, Throat.?Memphis, July 22.?At 12 o'clock last night Anuie Hardy, A colored girl, fifteen years old, was found by licr parents on returning from church, with her jaw broken and several wounds on her throat, neok and breast, which looked as though they Jiad been inflicted with a pick axe. The girl Jiad been sick for several days and died this morning from the cfleets of the wounds. There as no clue to the perpetrators of the bloody act. A Man Found Murdered.?Salt Lake City, "Utah, July 22.?John Turner, son of Sheriff Turner, of Utah, was found murdered near Kcho City. It is believed the crime was committed by a tramp named Frederick Welcome, of whom fhe father is now in pursuit. Welcome had twice been arrested by Sheriff Turner for horse stealing, and had threatened the Sheriff's j :r~ inc. A Boli? Bank Robbery.?Detroit, Mich., July 22.?A bold robbery wns committed at the private bank of Fisher, Preston & Co., in this city. this afternoon. While the clerk, Fred D. Gilford, wns nlone, a stranger appeared at the opening of the wire screen in the counter and expressed a desire to buy some government bonds. As Mr. Gilford was about to reply, the (stranger suddenly reached through the aperg tnrc and struck him in the temple with a slung^ .-shot. The blow felled hitn to the floor, and (temporarily rendered him insensible. He was born in the year 1807 and had consequently attained that period allotted to man, three score years and ten. William Hay was the oldest son of the late genial mud venerable Rev. Thomas Hay, who for mar*y years was the most prominent minister of the Jliptist Church in Union County and the beloved Pastor of Padgett's Creek Church. The son inherited the genial disposition of the father -and was in all circles a pleasant companion ; He was un amiable, kind .hearted gentleman, an affect ionate husband, a devoted father and a good citizen. In early life he was for several years engaged successfully in mercantile pursuits. For four _years ho held the ollicc of Clerk of the Court for Union County, niul discharged the arduous duties of that responsible ollicc, faithfully and acceptably. After leaving Union, he married that estimnJblc lady, Miss Martha. Law, of Newberry Co., mud devoted the romainder of his life to Agricultural pursuits, in which he was remarkably .successful. lie was in all respects a temperate juan?temperate in his tastes, in his habits, and in his opinions. During many years of intimate friendship we cannot recall an unkind or uncharitable word towards any one.
