Death or Colonel Harder.?New Orleans,
May 21.?Ck?l. Thomas P. Hardee. Chief Slate
Engineer, died hore to day. He was formerly
State Engineer of Mississippi, and during the
war was Lieutenant Colonel of Engineers on the
staff of Jolinstoa. Ho was also engiucer in the
office of the United Status Yellow Fever Commission
and Vico President of the Society of
American Civil Engineers.

Mr. Editor :?As there has been nothing said
about the selection of our County Officers and
ns it is getting time to look out for competent
men to fill the different positions, therefore, in
order to put the ball in motion, 1 will suggest
the following ticket, niul in the mean time will
nay that this selection has been made with the
view of getting men that will do their duly fearlessly,
and at tho same time have an eye single
to the interest of their constituents :
Of course it is understood that Hon. T. B.
Jeter will be nominated for Lieutenant-Governor
upon the State ticket, which will make a vr.cancy
in the Senate. In that event, 1 suggest William
Munro, Esq., as his successor.

about one party nominating a whole County
ticket, thinkiug or hoping the "first birds will
catch all the worms." We have nothing to say
against any of the men put iu nomination in
your last week's paper. They are all first rate
it en ; but as many persons in the County have
known for some time that Rev. J. 8. BAILEY
was a candidate for the ollice of 8chool Commissioner,
we now ask you to please publish
the same. Mr. Bailey has spent the prime of
his life in preaching to the poor ; and has ofteu
been necessitated to undergo the heavy burden
of leaching and preaching at the r.uie time.?
While ho iiceds the ollice his friends do not
put his name in nomination on this ground
alone ; but on Ins own merits. We feel that he
is competent to discharge the duties of the office
and will do so as faithfully nnd as well as

At Columbia, connection is made frem Charleston,

At Spartanburg, connection is made at AirLinc
Depot with traius from Atlauta and Charlotte,
also with Stage L.iue to Glenn Springs.
At Ileudcrsonvillc, connection is made with
a first class Line of Stages to Asheville, arriving
there the same evening.

with first class conveyances from the Livery
Stables in llendcrsonvillc at reasonable rates.

found well supplied with good Mountain fare
at reasonable rates.
