prone to go to extremes, anil the common expression
"it is all the rage," is accepted as nu
thority for adopting any course of conduct or
style of language that tho most vulgar or illit*

other correspondent "Occasional," 1 fear is
about to run into one of these extremes, in accusing
me of being "fast," merely because my
article on the pic-nio happened to be received
by you first, which happening consigned his to
the waste basket. His idea of ray object being
matrimony, makes me laugh. Why, toy friend,
I've been working in the matrimonial harness
several years. You've not got "Dick Dundas, '

: Well, Mr. Editor, we've had an awful fight up
here, between General Green and Cnpt. lloe.?
Uilt old lloe has fairly whipped the General out
and the farmers are crowing over him like game
chickons. The what crop is the best we have
had for many years. Oats are also fino. Health

towards the green apple and wntermelon

A Sao Event.?Georgetown, June 12.?Our
community was painfully shocked, and suddenly
thrown in a state of bereavement to-day
by tho announcement of the untimely death of
Mr. 11. Lovat Eraser, the only son of our intendnnt
and banker, the Hon. Kobert E. Eraser.?
The mournful and dreadful event occurred about
11 o'clock A. M., at his father's residence, where
be lived, by shooting himself with a pistol, the
ball entering bis left breast and passing through
the heart, causing death withiu a half hour.
S. T. Atkinson, trial justice, empanelled n
jury, with George 11. Congdon, foreman, and tho
following verdict was rendered: * "That tho deceased,
K. Lovat Fraser, came to his death by a
pistol-shot wound, inflicted by himself, gnd, in
the jury's opinion, while in a state of mental
aberration.''
The generous and kind nature of our deceased
friend, and his congenial manners, had collected
ior nimjteu in tnis coinniuniiy a nosi oi warm
friends. lie is highly thought of where he is
known. Not long since he was connected with
the Georgetown 7'ime* as one of its editors. In
that capicity he discharged, his duties manfully
and fearlessly, thereby gaining admiration from
all. He leaves n young and devoted wife and
two lovely little children to mourn thcix loss.
He departed this life at the youthful age of about
twenty-eight years.?Cor XTeios and Courier.

A Sap Accident.?Mr. E. Frank Lyles, while
returning from a hunt on Thursday, was
killed by the accidental disoharge of his shotgun.
It sceins that upon arriving within
about two hundred yards of the residence of
his brother-in-law, Mr. W. A. Martin, living
near Monltcello, Mr. Lyles stopped to rest on a
fence, where he was soon sitting by some negroes
working a short distance Away. He had
been there but a few moments when the discharge
of a gun was heard, jtnd the negroes saw
him fall. Upon arriving at the fence, they
foAnd him dead, the contents of the gun having
entered his head near the eye and passed out at
the back. Mr. Lyles was about 19 years of age,
and the son of the late Captain E. F. Lylos, of
ima uuuiiij. nc nnu uvon numv umo in winnsburo,
attending school, but was compelled to go
home on account of sickness. He was preparing
to return when the fatal accident happened.
Mr. Lyle.i was a promising young man, and
had made warm fiiends by bis genial disposition.
The news of his death caused general'and
profound sorrow.? Winmboro New* and Herald.

A remarkable breach of promise caso has been
tried in London. Mr. Jaokson contracted to
marry Miss Paris. Subsequently ho became insane,
whereupon MUs Paris sued him for not
marrying her. and has actually recovered $'250.
Tho Lord Chief Baron ruled that the defendant's
lunacy did not make a bit of difference.
It was argued that so far from being incapacitated
for marriage by his lunacy, he all the more
neoded a wife to take care of him. The thing
was settled on purely abstract principles. It
was nothing that poor Mr. Jackson oouldn't be
mafiied ; that no clergymen would marry a
inanino. It was shown that Mr. Jackson was
rapidly recovering, and when restored to his
senses might marry Miss Paris, but that didn't
change (Jie verdict. Miss Paris got her $250.
