Under tho discussion of improvements upon and around the grounds, Mr. John Rodger moved that a substantial double cubin be put up tin the grounds, to bo used this season as un eating saloon and afterwards as a tenant's house, thereby enabling the association to receive a revenue from tho cultivation of its farm. Capt. J. T. Doulass said ho thought sonio good migKt ka ??? " 1 " ? - premium expenses by individuals offering special premiums; that on this plan he would offer a premium for the best acre of corn, soiuo ono clso, then, for best acre of cotton, eto.; and he said Mr. J. C. Hunter had authorized him to offer for him a special premium of $10 for the best Colt by his Stallion, "Gov. Hampton." Tho President said he was satisfied if the peoplo would attend tho Fair for ono or two years, taking certificates of merits instead of premiums, tho Society could thereby get out of debt. The sense of the meeting was,?no premiums, no Fair. Mr. C. ?. Sims, thought that those who had taken premiums would be willing to return them to be again competed for; that if it would relieve the Society any he would return all he had taken. This plan was lost for want of a second. Mr. S. M. ltice, folt that those who had been so fortunnte as to win the premiums would feel it their privilege to take some shares of stock, to aid in telieviug our indebtedness. Mr. If. L. Goss closed the financial discussion, by moving that no action bo taken until after the next Fair, when it would be ascertained how f* much the net redRpWNre&ld reduce the debt, and we would know how much would be necessary to get us out of our creditors' hands ; and to make the net receipts as much as possible, lie moved thai a committee be appointed to solicit subscriptions for the purpose of building the cabin and otherwise improve and put in order the grounds. Tho President appointed the following committee, viz.: James Munro, R. C. Farr, C. E. Sims. Tho premium list was revised, altered and amended, and will be published i:i the Times. A number of pamphlets, with the rules and regulations and premiums, are still on hand and can be had by application to the Secretary. , The time of holding tho next Fair was fixed for the 29th, 30tli and 81st of October 1878. ( Mr. Editor :?In your issue of the 23d inst., you have seen tit to give publicity to an occur- 1 rence which is not at all pleasant to me and not { in accordance with the facts, and as you have alwavs boasted a disnosition and willimriiesa to do justice all rouud I request you will iusort this?a true statement of the affair : On tlio 10th I made a speech nt Joncsville ; before going upon the stand Mr. El. Lindscy said to mo that a report was in circulation there that I had, iu a previous speech at Brown's Store, said to the negroes, "you have 27,000 ' majority in the State aud you are fouls if you do not make use of it." This, on the stand, 1 said was an unmitigated and malicious lie. Mr. Tom Kink Littlejohn spoke, and said lUndolph (not Adolpbus) Brown had told it there. I then said that h||he hnd^c wastheliar. On the 17th parties grero to spcek %t Brotvu's. Fiicnds insisted I should make reply. I consented, and went down to the Store in company with Mr. William Vincent. Tossing through Mr. Frank Mabry's orchard I puiled two apples. Arrived at the grove in front of tho storo, I sat down in front of a squad of men with my back to the store and began eating the apples. I had hardly finished them when some one called me by uame, I got up and saw Randolp Brown, with a stout seasoned club swung to his wrist with a striugand held rather behind his right leg. He repeated his question, and said I should not talk about him. 1 then told him what I had heard from a responsible man, as 1 coming from him, and told him to go to that > man and let mo nlone. I turned aside my heat t to call some ono who had bceu at Joncsville to verify my words, when Brown struck me a blow on the left side of the hood, just above the temporal region, with his stick, cutting a small arter ry and knocking roe blind and senseless, striking r me several licks while in this condition across the back and shoulders, and preparing to strike mo another blow on the back of the beau, which i would probably have killed me (his intention as y believed by many) when Bonner Cook caught it the stick. n Now sir, if you, or any one else with a disposition to do justice, can sec any part 1 had in J" "a difficulty," you have better eyes than the pcor pie here, who, to a man, denounce the brutal, ir cowardly, unmanly assult of Brown, after explanation and authorities had beeu in tlio mildest manner given him.
