Hampton." a The President said he was satisfied if the p people would attend the Fair for ono or two 11 years, taking certificates of merits instead of t! premiums, the Society could thereby get out of ii debt. The senso of the meeting was,?no premiums, no Fair. Mr. C. E. Sims, thought that those who had taken premiums would be willing to return them to be again competed for; that if it would relieve the Society any he would return all he had taken. This plan was lost for want of a second. Mr. S. M. Rice, felt that those who had been y so fortunate as to win the premiums would feel r ii uieir privilege to take some shares of stock, 11 to aid in telieviug our indebtedness. a Mr. H. L. Undismayed, however, tjrifparties went to work and soon hnd the bridge patched so they could cross, and went on their way xqioicing. Aughtry harnessed his loam, got together six of his men ami went down and repaired the damaged bridge in a fow hours, at his own erpense, thus saving to the county tiiirty or forty dollars. lie put in two new sleepers, thirty feet long, about three hundred feet of flooring plank, and repaired one of the cap sills of the bridge. At the usual prices paid for such work, Mr. Aughtry would he entitled to at least forty dollar*, but he is unwilling to mnkc nny charge at all. learn that Col. Duncan, the Commissioner in ^^charge, was very much pleased with the manner in which the work was done, ntui has requested the Esq. to make out his bill against the county, and he will $ee that it >s paid. Knowing the generosity of Col. Duncan in such matters, Mr. Aughtry has agreed to let him fix the price, and will accept nnything which the Commissioners may offer. Fo mote it he.
