In the company was Mr. O. 11. 11. Graham, one of the Grand Jurors. Mr. G. being a resident of your town, wished to travel through tho country to see the changes, &c., and was well pleased for his trouble. Wo arriveJ at Spartunburg about sunset and stopped with Mr. Kellcy. Our stay was to be short, ns we had to take the night train for Greenville. Our much esteemed friend, Mr. Carrier, sent round one of his busses and gave us all a free ride to the depot. May his shadow never grow loss, and his businesa tur prosperous. We arrived at Greenville about tj o'clock A. M. Monday. We then took the street car to the Moselcy House, about one hundred yards from tho Court House, and I must not forget to mention that tho Colonel and his better-half knows how to fix up all things right to suit their guests. Tho fare is good and cheap, and I would recommend all of my Union friends when they visit Greenville to give Col Moselcy a call. Col. I. G. McKissick arrived on Tuesday morning. Tho weather was very warm and tho crowd so large that there were but little pleasure during the day. The streets were crowded. The night was pleasant and cool. Tuesday was tho day set apart for tho contest drill of certain volunteer companies. They worn foil i% in linmlimv All wni'A ilfacon;! it* gray, and with much taste. The prize was twonty-livo dollars and a beautiful tlag. The drill came oil'at 4 o'clock P. M. Col. J. P. Thomas, of Charlotte, was judge of tho conlost. To au eye witness, who knew nothing about tho volunteers, it would have hcon hard to discriminate; but not so with Col. J. P. Thomas, lie noted all errors, and so reported. Tho maximum was good for all, but tho Hutlcr (Sunrds received tho prizo. Short addresses were delivered by Col. J. P. Thomas anl Gen. Capers. Greenville is quite a delightful and enterprising city. The *ii:orehants all complain of hard times, nnd say they have lost money. Goods arc cheap; some say they are selling for cost or less, as they arc over-stocked. As to the Unit jd States Court I have but little to say as yet, as I nu\ somewhat concerned, but will speak of it at some future day. Judge llryant ami District Attorney Northrop were at their posts. The amnesty|power was in full force for all the illicit distillers, Ate. On Tuesday 1 heard that II") came up and confessed their sins, and promised to sin no more. It was thought thcro would bo about .1(H) by Monday night next. This was a great camp meeting shower of grace to the mountaineers. What a time we will have now. Either a shower of whiskey, or tho supply stopped forever. W'c will wait and see. We met many of our old friends we had not S?e?4f*for' years, nnd brought to mind tho past. As to what will he done with the so-called Union Rescuers we cannot yet say, as the ease yvas so exaggerated in the beginning Dint the legal prosecutors don't know what is best to do .with the case. They havo become convinced that there were more gass than reality, aiid.if it was not for public opinion there would be no more trouble about it, for any thinking man knows the charges, as they now stand, fo be untrue; for Union County is a law-abiding county, as niHch so as any in the Stale.
