Hoffman, passed through town late on Friday evening last on a raid in the mountains. They returned on Saturday morning with five prisoners. Wc learn from the Cprisoners that some of the men abused and malreated them, and used very obscene language in the presence of their families, and that a negro who is attached to this force punched one of the prisoners with his gun. Mr. Ncal, living nearl'entral, informs us that one day last week a squad of these men came to hi? house, put him under arrest, and searched his house from garret cellar. Mr. Neal demanded their authority for acting thus, but they refused to slipw it.? Mrs. Neal was confined to her bed with an infant only two days old, and these men, wet and muddy, with guns in their hands, entered her bedroom and searched in and about her bed, perfectly indifferent as to what tlic consequences might he. Mr. Neal says they acknowledged to hitn that they did not have a warrant with them. Such action as this is what has brought so much odium upon the revenue officials.
