About Orohard Grass.
^have been sowing Orchard Grass for some
.uMfcrs and think it the best grass for upland
^tistares wo know anything of. It will stand
* more grazing and hot sun than any grass 1 have
?ver tried.
I have sown thoTall Meadow Oat, Italian Rye,
Peronnial Rye and Orchard Grass, all together.
The latter took possession of tho ground, in a
rich piece of very opeu Timber land. "
Break tip the ground at least twice with a
long scooter plow, harrow, and then sow ttro
bushels of clean seed to the acre, aud brush in.
This seems like heavy seeding, but it will pay
in getting a good stand. It will do to sow from
now until the 1st of November. The books will
aay something like this:
It is very nutritious and very palatable to
all kinds of stock. It gives a bite earlier than
almost auy other grass ; is permanent; will bear
viuac nuu wviisiniib viuppiug , biuiiuo ocvcrc
drought, nnd when cut will, in r week, give another
good bite to stock. It is, therefore, Admirable
as a permanent pasture grass. It blossoms
with clover, gives a very large proportion
of hay, grows a speedy and luxuriant aftermath,
and, with olover, makes a permanent
meadow."
If your friend wishes any clover "in his,"
one and a half bushels >of Orchard Grass and
:two gallons of clover seed, mixed, is the quantities
I would advise.

two, in your paper, aad advise him to tnke the

receiving yesterday the respects of a Virginia
city, did not fail to recall those earnest words

Thus the lameut for his death will begin with
the first citizen of the Republic; it will reach
through thousands of the humblest, who were
