on our return from the railroad meeting
at Laurens. The Judge was in his best vein,
and made n long, and otherwise tedious, journey
pleasant

got off some excellent hits. Among the delegates
from Sparta iburg was a Mr. Pilgrim.?

The Troops in Trxas.?New York, SeptemB.?A
letter from Lieutenant Cooper, at Fort
Concht, Texas, who was with the party of soldiers
who became lost recently in the Staked
Plains in the Northwestern region and neatly
perished from thirst, recounts that when the
horses gave out tho men fought to drink their
blood. This only intensified their thirst, ar.d
tho soldiers suffered symptoms of the blindstaggers
from which tho horses died. The loss
in the trip was four horses, and one citizen died
from thirst. Twenty-three horses and live mules
perished. The reported fight with the Indians
and massacre of soldiers ou the Staked l'laius t
was a canard.
