THE HOUSEKEEPER
Sweet Rusks.?One quart new milk,
throo tablespoon fuls yeast, flour to mako a
thick batter; ui'xat night, and iu the morning
add one cupful fresh iard and one cupful
sugar rubbed together, three eggs troll
beaten, preserving the white of one; boat
this to a stilf froth ; add a little sugar, and
spread over the top. They are excellent.
Green Corn Fritters.?Gratoasufficiout
number of ears of ripe corn to uako
a quart; rub togother quarter of a pound of
- buttor, quarter of a pound ofsugar, and three
tablespoonfuls flour, a pinch of salt; stir
inte this ono quart of rich milk, eight eggs,
well boaten, and lastljr the green corn; if
uot thick cuough a little more flour may bo
added; fry in hot butter, or bake iu a pudding
dish.

a pint of hot water; lot it stand until it becomes
tepid; suuff some up tho nostrils two
or three limes during tho day, or use the
dry powdered borax like snuff, taking a
pinch as often as required. At night havo
a haudkercliief saturated with spirits of camphor,
place it near the nostrils, so as to inhale
the fumes while sleepiug.

for a method of rapid telegraphing of
fac similes of stereotyped plates. It is
claimed that by this process an entire page
of a newspaper can be transmit ted by telegraph
iu from fifteen to thirty minutes, delivering
the copy directly from the instrument
iu such form that it can ho Imnded
immediately to tho printers. In other words,
the copy will bo a substantial reproduction
of tho original, except thai it may be given in
a larger sized lector, if so desired. The stcrctype

thau the filling of all depressions or spaces
between the faces of the letters with a noncouducliug
substance, which may be quickly
applied, the faces of the type being left
clean by means ol an equally simple process.
The plate thus prepared is placed upon a
cylinder arranged to verolvo rapidly so as
to present each successive letter to lingers
attached to a travelling framo. As the
cylinder bearing the plates revolve, the
frame gradually advances by the operation
of a serew, aud thus each and every liuo is
sueccasFully presented to the liugers or
magnetic points already mentioned. Necessarily
the circuit is open when the points
are passiug over the nou-condueting surface,
but as often as the metal type presents
itself to the Gogcrs, the circuit is closed,
and the corresponding magnetic points or
pens at the receiving station make the record
there iu the same letter as the original,
delineated iu a series of Cue lines, either
upon chemically prepared or ordinary paper
fixed upon a corresponding cylinder at the
receiving staticu.

search of oilier provender. The eye-witness
to this singular contest, which was nui without
its exciting features, declares himself
convinced that a pig is iuipeiviuus lo the
poisonous bite of any kind of serpcut.

camphor and brandy mixed and heated,
will relieve the pain of the bowels, if frequently
laid over the stomach and bowels.

if it clings, but put the lard over it.
At night, in extreme warm weather, a
lemon squeezed in tepid water, to sponge off '
the tired-out little body, will give rest to
both the mother and child. Saieratus is
good, hut the lemon is best liven washing
off the little feet, neck and palms of the
hands in tepid, never very cold, water, will
induce a healthful sleep.
