We have another crop that flourishes in our

by the wild berry, which grows very fine in
* placet, but is not equal to the cultivated, in flavor

As for telling farmers what to do to be successful
in their calliug I shall forbear, for, as a
class, tlioy are hard-headed, and will go their
own way contrary to figures and theory, and
many tines their own interest, so, as they are
joined to their idols let them alone.

April 11.?The Cameron King rides over civil
nervico reform under Hayes as U did under 1
4 urani. ion days ago, a special agent of the
Post Office ascertained that Robert Peysert,
Postmaster at Bethlehem. Pa., was some $1,600
short in his accounts with tho Post Office. In
quiry showed that the office had becq,/enrfully
mismanaged. Letters had been tampijred with,
money letters lost, and postage stamps put up
as security for Peysert's private loans. Peysert
is an old Oameron man, having worked for him
since 1801. 'lie has been arrested once, and
narrowly escaped the penitentiary for issuing
fraudulent naturalisation papers. He was a
poer shoemaker when he was appointed. He is
better off now. Ho owna the post Office building
for one thing. When he woe found to he in
trouble, the Cameron Ring in Bethlehem stepped
forward. Yhey made good the deficiency; and
K, one of '.heir number, John Lerch, was put for
4k ward for the succession, with the understanding
F |g that Peysert should become depntyand run the
office. The business men and citizens bate
fought this step. They wunt a new man. 8eve
ral delegations have been here on the subject.
To-day the department decided to appoint John
Lerch. This is civil service reform in practice.

The Herald'* New Orlcnus despatch says,
Messrs. .McMillan, Ruy and two other prominent
Republicans, were invited to meet tlie Commissioners,

in regard to Packard's possible acceptance of
r the proposed plan of adjustment. The discussion
was at great length, and resulted in their
expressing the opinion that Packard could not
accept such an arrangement, since it involved
an abandonment of hi3 case. To-night, the
Nicholis Legislature meets in caucus to consider
the eituation witli regard to tlie projected terms
of settlement. Its action lias developed an al

the proposed plan whenever it he officially submitted.
Packard maintains his delimit attitude,
freely stating his determination to defend his
Government, even if the troops are withdrawn.
Public excitement has greatly abated, and State
securities have advanced. About U P. M. the
Commission received the long expected despatch
from the President, and Gen. Augur was sent
for, to transcribe it. At half past 10 the session
of the Commission adjourned, it has since
transpired that the despatches received from the
President, fully endorsed the plan proposed, and
it is to bo forthwith carried into etl'cct. The
Nicholls Legislature have already given tlioir
usscnt. It is understood that neither the politics
nor personnel of the United States Scuators
to be elected, aro made conditions of the settlement.
