TO BB AVOIDED.
When speakers on both sides alternate !
addresses to a mixed crowd, it tends to |
disorder When one side is evidently
getting thc best of the argument, the
other is tempted to quash proceedings
with a riot. Henoe tho Scott ring re?
sorted to briokb at Chester, whon they
were getting the worst of the debate.
Let each side hold ita own meetings,
and address the aa aie people at different

FATAL ?CUL IN SAVANNAH.
Tho usual quiet of the'city yesterday
was seriously disturbed by tho announce?
ment that a duel had beon fought in the
vicinity of the city, at 7 o'clock a. m.
between two well known gentlemen. It I
was not until a later hour, half past'
ten, that tho affair was fully mado known
by the fact one of the principles, Mr.
Ludlow Cohen, was brought to the oily,
and to his residence, wounded fatally in
the encounter.
The principals to this fatal affair were
Captain Riohard F. Aiken, a gentleman
well known in tho community, and Mr.
Ludlow Cohen, a merchant of the city
equally well known, and both of them
highly esteemed and respected. We are
unable to state tho causes leading to
this "code," except from universal re<
port, which bases the difficulty upon a
private quarrel between the two gent?o*
men named, which oould not, it seems,
be adjusted without a resort to the
field. '
The gage of the battle wai thrown
down by Mr. Aiken and readily aooepted
by Mr. Cohen. Between six and seven
o'clock, Thursday evening, tho parties
accompanied hy their respective seconds,
a few friends, and two surgeons, pro?
ceeded to Dr. Reed's plantation, five
miles from the oity, on the Augusta
road, and at six o'clock yesterday morn?
ing they repaired to tho field aeleoted
for the fight. 1
The ground was staked off, tho
distance, twelve pacos, measured, and
the principals and seconds took their
respective places, tho latter loading and

extlnotio a of pain. It is not only tho best reme?
dy ever known for Bruises, Outs, Barna,' Ao., but
for Dysentery or Choler?, or ?ny sort of bowel
com plain t, it is ft remedy unsurpassed for efficien?
cy and rapidity of aotion. In the great oitles of
India, and other hot climates, H bas become the
Standard Medicine for all such complaints, as
well aa for dyspepsia, Liver Complaints, and other
kindred disorders. For Coughs and Colds, Con

SINKING SLOWLY.
Diseases that progress rapidly to a crisis aro 1
not the only ones to bo dreaded. Canker or dry
rot does not blast a t reo as suddenly aa a stroke
of lightning, bnt unless arrested, it destroys it !
as certainly ; and in like manner ohroniu dobility
although it does not kill with tho swiftness of I
yellow fever, is as sure to sap the springs of life
eventually as any acute disease, if not oheoked
by invigorating medloation. There is something
inexpressibly touching in the speotuole of prema?
ture decay. Languor, pallor, emaciation, depros- j
sion of spirits, and a distaste for exertion, ?re its j
ordinary symptoms, and they should be promptly
met by tonio treatment. Tho best invigornnt and
oxbilarant that can b? administered in a ease of j
this kind is Ho s tot tor's Stomach Bitters. The
stimulating principle of the preparation rouses
the dormant Energies of the system, and the
strengthening and regulating properties give a
permanent and healthful impulse to the vital
forces thus.brought into play. Tho falling appe?
tite is re-awakened, the process of digestion and
assimilation aro quickened, the quality of the
blood is improved, tbe secretions become moro
natural, and every organ that contributes to tho
nourishment of the body undorgocs salutary
change. By thoso moans tho ropair of tho phys?
ical structure is effected and Its hoalth and vigor
rostorod. In no olass of diseases has the bonifi
cent operation of the Bitters huon more marked
and striking than in thoso characterized by gen?
eral debility and nervous prostration. Ladies
affected with these ailments find in this most
wholesome of all tonios and oorreetivos the saf
ost and surest means of reliof. It is strong to
restore and powerless to injure. Such is the
uniform testimony of olouds of witnesses.'
