WEDDING D.ttl?SS A CENTURY AUV.
To begin with thu ludy ; her Iock?
were ttraincd upwards over an immense
cushion- that 6at liko an inoubus on
hot* head, and plastered ovor with po?
matum, and thou sprinkled over with a
shower ol' white powder. The height of
this tower was somewhat over a foot.
One single white rosebud lay on its top
like au eagle* on a huystack. Over her
neek and bosom was folded a lace hand?
kerchief, fastened in front by a breast?
pin rather lurgcr than a copper cent,
-containing her grandfather's miniature
?et in virgin gold. Uer airy form was
. braced up in a satin dress, the sleeves
as tight ns the natural skin of thc arm,
with a waist formed by a bodice worn
outside, whence the tkirt flowed off,
and was distended at the top of an ample
hoop. Shoes of white kid, with peaked
toes, and heels of two or three inches
elevation, oncloscd her feet, and glitter?
ed with i [tangles, as her little pedal
peeped cautiously out. Now for the
* swaiu : bis hair was sleeked back and
plentifully befloured, while his queue
projected like tho handle of a skillet.
His coat was a sky blue silk, lined
with yellow j his long vest of white sat?
in, embroidered with gold laco ; his
breeches of the same material, and tied
at the kneo with a pink ribbon. White
silk stockings und pumps with laces,
and ties of thc same hue, completed the
habiliments of his nether limbs. Lace
ruffles clustered his wrist, and a porten -
. tous frill, worked iu correspondence,
and boaring the miniature of his beloved
. finished his truly genteel appearance.

In Hunt's Merchants' Magazine for
January wc find an article upon the
indebtedness of thc leading cities of thc
Uuitcd States, wbJch, though giving
only partial returns of the financial con?
dition of these cities, is not without in?
terest. Tho net debt of New York
eity and county is $25,000,000 on a
valuation of 8908,430,837. The net
debt of Philadelphia is about ?25,000,
000, on a valuation of $403,004,989.
The uet debt of Hosten is not correctly
given. On thc 31st of December last it
was about $12,810,139 on a total valua?
tion, May 1, 1800, of 8549,511,000.
It is claimed that Huston six per cent
currency bonds stand higher in thc
money market than the bonds of any
ether city in thc Union. Some of thc
Western cities are utterly insolvent.
Galena, Illinois, cannot pay the interest
of its debt f $200,000. and thc valuation
of property, which in 1856 was ?2,212,
. 671, is uow less than 8500,000.
TIIK AFRICAN Sr.AVK TRA DB STILL
CARRIED ON UN DLR TUB AMERICAN
FLAG.-The resolution introduced by
Senator Wilson to-day has as its object
a moro rigorous policy in regard to thc
suppression of the slave trade. It is
nuderstood that this traflio iu human
beings still exists on the coast of Zan?
zibar. The United States Government,
io order to put down this illegal trade,
appointed Judges sonto years ago. It
is stilted as a singular fact that thc
judges so appointed, instead of attends
ing te their business, are very busily
engaged in staying ttl home drawing
their pay, allowing thc Africans to take
care of themselves. It is also under
stood that several Consuls on that coast
execute their official duty in the same
convenient manner. It ist fact that
the largest share of thc trade is carried
on under tho American fing and in
American bottoms. Thia matter will
reccivo an overhauling.-- Washington

her mind quito freely about it. The
culprit mannifested becoming contrition
and offered to have nie Inn mended, or
supply its place. Increased anger on
the part of the lady, who demanded a
feiece cf paper in which to wrap the
fragments. Thc youthful diplomatist
opened his porto-monnaie,arid, without
the least impertinent intention in tho
world, took out a thn-usund franc note,
Haying, ns he toro it in half, "I havo

climax, and the excitement of the lady
reached so high a point that a fashion?

SOLUIiLE PHOSPHORIC ACID, in tho form nf SOLUBLE PHOSPHATE OF LIME, or DIS

ratio ofSolublo Phosphoric Acid which i.? in them.
Tho immense deposits of Phosphntio Gunti'>s w hich were discovered in 1867 in South Carolina,
by Dr. Pit ATT, consists mainly ol Insoluble Phosphate ol Lime, which is made availablu as a Fer
tilizor by being ground to powder, and reduced by Sulphuric Acid to such a condition ns to make
ils insoluble phosphate s dubl" i-i waler, and thus made capablo,of being taken up by growing
plants. The insoluble I'hosphuto loan , in any commercial Fertilizer is of nu more value to lin
plant than tho original Phosphate rock. Tho greater tlx proportion of Ibis Soluble Phosphate
which nay Fertilizer contains, tho less thc quantity required'pur nero, and consequently the cheapest
Fertilizer is thal containing tho highest percentage ol Soluble Phosphat .
Impressed with these truths, tho SULPHURIC ACID AND SUPER - PHOSPHATE COMPANY

CHARLESTON, S. C., January 1st, 1870.
Respecting the merits nf the Ammoniated Soluble Super Phosphate of Lime which I used lui
season upon my Cotton lands, I would sta?? thur it hus exceeded my expectation*, its nppllcinioi
having been attended with the most favorable remita. I ut<ed it in connection viih the pupsltr
Phosphates of the duy and Peruvian Guano, and unhesitatingly give the preference to Moors. Wa,
Crichton A Son's Am moni ? ted Super Phosphate, which I regard as tho best fertilizer tor Col tun that
bas been offered to the public.

In reply to your enquiry regarding Wm. Crichton A Son's Amtuonintod Fertilizer .-em to toe list
(?pring, I ean give my own und Mr. J. M. Fowler's experiments. I triel it on Cotton, side by lld?
with Peruvian Guano-costing $112 per ton-and in the sume quantity, and the difference WHS COB
sidenthle. being in favor of the Fertiliser. The Cotton grew fr?ai two to three inches taller, sod
wiis bolled in proportion.
Mr. F.rw 1er. one of our best fanners, and closest and most accurate observers, told me he tried
Peruvian Guano, Soluble Puci?c. Wandu Fertiliser, and six or seven others, the cheapest of which
cost $6? per ton, and Crichton's Fertiliser beat tbetn all.

JOHNSON'S, Barnwell Co., S. C.. Dec. 28ih. 1869.
I wed Wm. Crichton A Son's Ammoniated PbospliHte on both Corn and Cotton, at the rat? cf
200 pounds to theuero. The results were vory good, although wo had a very dry soason. Isa
satisfied it is n valuable manure, as it was applied on poor land, which is the pince to tc<t anyihiog
of tbia kind. I recommend it to planters as a good fertiliser.
JAMES A. MOSLEY.
CUI.VKRTON. 0\., November 15ih. 1869.
"This year I have experimented with ten different fertilizer* of the nvojt popular Imindr-tnd
''Wm. Crichton A Sou's Ammoniated Soluhlo Super- Phosphate of Limo" ls nt present only equalled
by two of the manures. I mn not quite Mir ugh picking, but there is so little yet to be picked, that
it will not materially ?lier i e above statetnei t or result.
I ean without hesitation recommend this fertilizer to planters as n No. 1 Cotton Manure.

- "I used tho Ammo> lated Supor-Phosphate of Lime nf W.t.. Crichton A Son un ihr. c acres of Col?
ton. The summer was remarkably dry ; ye' I am well pleased with the result. Thc yield of Cottee
being much greater where the ferriliscr waa used, and paying me handsomely. I can du erfdly rt
commend it as a flrsl class fertilizer. Thc woll known integrity of the manufacturer' is ii sufficient
guarantee for its uniformity." .

"I write to say, Unit so far as I have heard from tho "AMMONIATED SOLDOLE SUPER

think your fertilizer shows fully as well as the Peruvian, and beHove tin ru will be a great demssd
