On Monday, the 20th inst.. several par ties were attracted by buzzards to ia spot near Mt. Zion church below Central and on t investigation a new born babe was found dead. A colored wouien who lives at Cen trial was suspicioned of having given birth to the child and accused of killing it. The C child had been buried and on W ednesday following physicians took it up and exam ined it. The Coroner held an inquest over it last Satui day and the testimony went to . show that Frances Duprec, the suspected IF woman, had given birth to the child in a al field from near 'anybody's house, but she sg claims it was born dead. The usual chemi. cal tests of the lungs were made by physi cians ian(d they testiflt-d that the child ha1d 011ce lived. A hole was found in one side of the child's head sonething like a hard mstrumnent or sharp rock would make, but it is claimed that this could have been made a by the buzzards. There was no positive C evidence th:at she comintteI infanticide. , The Coroner had to empaiiel two juries the first one having failed to sgree on a verdict. She was held for court on tt. ) charge of infnticide, hbnt was not in acon dliionl to be committed to jail and is being e guared at her home. J. P.
