Poltcal Danger Ahead.
A prominent white Republican who has L
long since ceased having anything to do a
with politics in any way, shape or form, is o

Third Party people. He talked about the r

terday. le noticed thqA Mr. Bowden, the d
recognized leader of the 'hird Partyites S1
lind stated in one of his interviews pub- u
ished i the last few days that there were c

n the Third Party ranks, and a good por- m
ion of them were Tillmauites wh o would b

Ile was surprised to see that these men
alked of voting for Weaver for president il
ad 'Tilhuan for Governor, at one and the ;
me time, as they wero of opposing polit- c
cal parties. They had each and all of N
hei taken the pledge in the primary to b
kupport tle iominees of the Democratic v
party, aid to him as an on looker, it seem- h
:d that these men if they voted for Weaver 1
would be miorally disqualified from voting
ior Til.nan. It would be no less than an t
)pen violation of the pledge. r
This is exactly what the people have
een wried against, and the appearance
of the Third Party ticket crea tes no sur
prise. It is pretty certain that these men
who took the pledge and promised to sup
port the Democrvtic nominees, have acted
the traitors, but there is nothing that can
now be done with them. The primary is
past and they are free to vote its they
please in the general election.
Tihe Republicans think that if the Demo
crats let them g3 onl and split up the elec
toral vote of the Democratic party they
can, by extraordinary efforts, elect their
electoral ticket. It was a danger that
sl:culd have been foreseen by the fast Slate
convention.
The Republicans take another view of
the situation. They think that if tie Third
Party puts atnother State ticket in the field
they would have no trouble in running in a
State ticket themselves, and electing it.
This would draw off enloulh votes from
Tillmat, they say, to give them a good
itmwg ground.
The policy of the Republicans in South.
(arolina just now is, therefore. a watting
one, and any move that leaves them any
advantag;e will be followed by great ac
1ivi.y on their part.
Webster, the State chairman, does not
hesitate to say that there is a strong under
current in favor of tihe nomination of a
State ticket among the Republicau leadem ,
and he himself thinks that it would be
wise. lie is not int favor of a consolida
tion with any other party or faction.
Ile will in a few days issue a call for
tihe assemlblage (if the State convention of
Iris party, and will do this without the call
inlg together of his committee. The con
