P. Carey represented Oscar Anthony and H. 4). Bowen represented Martha Simmons The jury found them guilty. The grand jury on Wednesday returned the folfowing bills: The State vs. James C. Couch as"ault and battery with intent to kill, no bill; the State vs. Clint Lacey, carrying concealed weapons, no bill; the State vs. Mat McDaniel, carrying conceal- C ed weapons, no bill; the State vs. Win. Chapman, assault and battery with Intent to kill and carrying concealed weapons, no bill; the State vs. James 0. Bowen, two 6 cases, carrying concealed weapons, true i bill, the State vs. Owen Green, assault and ' battery of a high ad aggravated nature and carrying concealed weapons, true bill; 3 the State vs. J. H. Hughes, using blaspbe- 8 mous language at religious meeting true bill the State vs. J. E. Howard, same charge, " true bill; the State vs. Jackton Hendricks, carrying concealed weapons, true bill; the State vs. W. H. Addngton, perjury, no bill. Jackson Hendricks, plead guilty to car. rying concealed weapons and was sentence to pay a fine ot $25 or be confined in the county jail for three months. He paid the flue. The first case tried Wenesday was the case of the State vs. George Ariail, for murder. H1. 0. Bowen reprosented the de fendant and the verdict of the jury was guilty. The next case was the State vs. Charlie McKinney for murder. J. P. Carey iepre sented the defe' dant and after the testimo ny for the State was closed the Solicitor stated that he could net ask for a verdict of guilty and the Judge instructed the jury to write a verdict of not guilty. The evi dence for the State made out a clear case of st-If defence. The next eased was the State vs. Owen Green for assault and battery of a high T and aggravated nature and carrying con cealed weapons. The defendant was call- % ed and failed to answer. lie was tried in 9 his absence and convicted and a scaled seu tence left for him. The next case tried was the State vs. Eli as Holloway for assault and battery with intent to kill. H. 0. Bowen, represented t the defendant. The verdict of the jury was not guilty. a The case of the State vs. Jas. T. Single. ton, charged with rape and as sault with intent to commit rape, was con tinued on motion of the defendants lawyer e J. P. Carey. The cases of the State vs. J. 11. Hughes and J. E. Howard for using blasphemous language at a religious meeting was coutin ued. The first case tried Thursday morning I was the State vs. James 0. Bowen. for cir- p rying concealed weapons.
