ten of Pendleten township, Andorsor
county, was stricken with apoplexv or
the 7th inst., while at wvork in the field,
and died before anyone reached him.
He was ai widely known and highly re
spected citizen.

children wes severely hurt a few days
ago by falling on a cane snag which
pieed the roof of its mouth. It wat

--At the recent term of the Anderson
court,Monroe Durham, indicted for sell
ing whisky without licenw,'plead guilty.
In iiw of the fadt that the defendant
t was bonvicted and punished for the same
I offence by the United States court a few
months since, Judge Wallace imposed a
light sentence, it being a flue of fifty
dollars or three months in jail.
-Mr. James A. Alexander died dt his
home in the Crow Creek sectioh last
Sabbath, at the age of 48 years, His
health had n0 ben gdod.for.utie time.
He was a straightforward, honest and
industrious citizen and will be greatly
missed. His remains were interred in
the Heid burying ground last Monday.
Ho leaves a widow and six children.
-Mrs. Anna Smith, relict of the late
Zephaniah Smith, died at the home of
her son Mr. Clayton Smith, in Central
township on the 14th inst. The funeral
was held at the family' burying ground
on Sunday. Mrs. Smith was a daughter
of the late Joseph Watkins, of Anderson
bounty, where she has a brother still liv
ing, Mr. William Watkins of Three and
Twenty. She was over 80 years of age
at the time of her death.
