The holiday was u6bered ii and
made gratful And happy, especiall3
to the children by. the Christmas tret
and Cantata at the Acaderkif on th'

the Cantata is due to the consumatU
skill and tact of Miss Ida Hartwell,
the assistant teacher, and of MisH
Mary D. Riley, who kindly assisted.
The superb Christmas tree was thor
oughly enjoyed. The inimitable wit
and humor of Mr. J; It. IaYnes, Who
personated Santa Claus, often con
vulsed the audience with laughter,
and he was applauded to the eclo.
The children and Young people will
long remember the festive Occasion.
The recitations were all well done and
thoroughly enjoyed. Prof. Baird cer
tainly has the gratitn(le of all for
having his school to contribute so
much to the holiday pleasures of the
community,

This school has completed its first
year under the management of Prof.
J. F. Dargan, and has proved a de
(ided success. There is no need for
any of our young peoplo going to a
distaice to take a preparatory course
to fit themselves for college. The
promnoters of this school have proven
b their course in securing Prof.
Dargan as a teacher, that it does not
pay to get an adventurer or inexperi
enced man to take charge of and
build up a successful school. By ad
vertising they secured a capable
instructor, and guaranteeing him a
paying salary, they were enabled to
get the best and the success of the
school has been all that could be ex
pected of it, and the patrlonage has
paid ill the expenses. Don't send
your children to a distance, but pat
ronize your home school. It is as
good as any school in the State and
it will be cheaper to educate your
children here than elsewhere, as
board and other incidental expenses
will be less. Patronize your honie
institutions and build up your coun
ty and ecomnunity, especially do so
when you can i secure as much or
more than you get elsewhere for a
less outlay.
