n April I have seen a groat deal of the
ountry and people, and thining it may
terest your reilers, I will givo them a
ihort sketch of what I have-seen. Stairt
ug from Loopers' I crossed Pickens tid
)conee counties from eUst. to west, and
ill along the r.ute was impressed by the
ippearaieo of thrift and prosperity of
Rhe farmers on our sile of the river.
After crossing Tugalo I traveled through
Franklin county, (ia., to Toccou, and
ever'ything looked prosperois here also.
While at Tot-con I visited the nistorio I
Falls, from v hich the plico derives its
nate.
My next stopping place was Clarks
ville where everything had taken on new
life sinie the conpletion of the railroad
to that plaen. I have traveled over
Northeast Georgia and I ant now in
)awson couty, and in the six counties
through which I have traveled the wheat
crop is given up as a failure. The
seed, which was extensively sown, will
not he nimde back. The oatm, and evenl
the rye, have the rust. Corn is up and
the greater part of it has been worked
over. There was it white frost here (i fty
miles north of Atlanta) on the inorning
of t.he 8t.h of May, and inany fatrners
who had their cotton well up, as well as
those who had theirs to a stand, are plant
ing over. The Alliaico is oil a iboom
everywhere. I was at a grand pienic at
Dawsoivillo on the 6th instant, where I
saw fifteen Alliances marching under
their banners to the niusic of i brass
band, with their beautifiul badges and
and white mashes. Their mnarshal of the
day rode a while and red horse and was
draped in cotton bagging from head to
foot. I tell you they looked like they
mean business. They hadl their own
speakers, aind, although such tuen as
Judge James Brown, candidate for Con
gress from this district, were present,
they cold not be heard. The crowd
was estimated at 3,000. 1 go north, into
Lumpkin conuty, next, from here. You.
