Piekens Count hias anntlnounced its
candidates, and we take pleasure in
publishing their uniies, miad telling
just how we are going to votu in the
next election. It is said the candi
dates for the House will have oppo
sition.
If appears quite euro now that
Abbevillo County wi1 get to vote n
the question of )ohibition. All the
candidates for tho general assembly
haue pleaded thcmoselve,s to support
the measure.
Pickens County was the first to
promulgate what is known as the
"Greenvillo Idea" in regard to repre
sentation, th iis year; 1huit Greenville
mayft have secured the Patent two yoars
ago. .fi not, Piekons should1( have
the credit for its wijsdomi, or the
blame for. its folly.
Every b)ody knows that Sherman
b)urned Colnnbia, himt the evidence
continues to accumu tlate. A member
of Gon. M. C. Butler's staff, Gol. J.
G. Black adds his testimony to the
truth of history, and says that if Slher
man did not actually order' the burni
ing, it was the logienl, sequence of
.his policy.
Last week a Barnwell County Con
vention called far the purpose of con
sidering the whiskey question, dlesided
by a vote of 68 to 66, to have then pro
hibitory laws of Barnwell County
repealed. It seems to irs that the
proper method would he, to submit
the question of "license," or "no li
cense" to the voters, and let their
decision bo the law.
The Democratic Clubs aro reminded
that tihe conduct of the Primary Elec
tion is only a small part of their duty.
They should remain wvell organizod,
and ready for business until after the
general election in November. See
that every democrat ic registered and
be sure that every man votes. A
heavy vote will show our solidity and
wvard off anl a,ttack from any opp)osingt
party.

11IM. EIronI.--The crops in this
section have improved very much
since I wrote you. The farmers have
made good use of the dry weather
we have been having, and now we
are having as fine growing seasons as
I ever saw.
Cotton is fruiting nicely. Corn is
good. Sweet potatoes are bursting
the ridges. Early Amber cane will
soon be ripe. There are three good
cane mills in this section.
Our pastor, Rev. J. 'W. Hutchins
