The Society of Good Samaritans re
quests us to say that it had nothing to do
with passing the labor resolutions, and
that they have never struok. The reso
lution was to have cash for labor. The
communication further says that they
know that rabbits, birds and 'possums
arelfree. While these luxuries are free the
law provides a penalty againsa those
who take them from the lands of others.
The Daily News of the 6th inst. says:
"Rebecca Goodlet, the wife of Spartan
Goodlet, died on Monday at her home
in Bates Township, upper Greenville,
she was thirty-five years old and left
fonr children. Her funeral was on
Tuesday from North Fork Church of
which she was a consistent member."
Mrs. Gootllett was a resident of this:
place when her husband died, and her
many friends will hoar of her death with
regret.
The Easloy Messenger, of the 11th
inst., says: "To "pleasure drivers" the
road between Easley and Pickens is roc
omimended as a fine thorougfare, the
scenery along the route is grand, plums
are ripe in the fine orchards on the way
and everything looks in harmony with
love itself. Still another-should the
rain catch you, the Thornley hotel at
Pickens is as good as there is in the up
country and the porter is ever ready to
call you early so as to take the morning
train which passes Easley at 7.40 A. Ml.
The State Supreme Court has render
ed a decision in a case against the Ab
boville County Commissioners for pay
ment for a bridge claimed by the commis
sioners to be defectivo. The Courtholds
that the Circuit Court has no original
jurisdiction in cases against counties.
The decision will prove of great benefit
to the counties, as by it all claims are to
be adjusted by the county commis
sioners themselvo, leaving to the claim
ant, however, the right of appeal to the
Circuit Court.
Mr. David L. Wardlaw, of Brushy
Creek Township, Anderson, died sud
denly of apoplexy last Saturday mor
ning the 29th ult., aged (10 years. He
was in apparontly good health up to bed
time the nighL previous, but at 1 o'clock
was disovered to be unwell and died in
a few hours. He was speechless from
the time he was attacked until his death,
but *gavo evidence of conciousness by
nodding his head when asked if he felt
any paini. H-o entered the army in the
iat.o'was as a memiber of the 4th regi
me'nt, but at the reorganization he join
ed the 16thm regiment, and served through
cut the war.

your readers would like to know how
the Singing Association terminated
at Oolenov on the 5th Saturday and(
Sunday, also the Ministers anid Dea
cons' Meeting which met with this
church on Friday before. There
wereC not very many in attendance on
Friday, on account of the people be
ing rather pushed with their work in
this settlement, but notwithstanding
the flourisling crops of crab grass
and running briars, we had a very
good crowd on Saturday and Sunday.
There was as large a congregation as
has been seen at this church in ma
ny years. On Sunday the house was
crowded and not more than half
could be seated in the house. We
were very much pleased to Bee some
of onr Pickens friends out on Sunday.

J. Anthony. Devotional exercises
wero opened on Saturday by prayer
from the president, after which the
