A FLORIDA COON HUNT.
Incidents, Accidents ane Fun to Be Found

"Come," said the Major, flipping the
ashes fron his eigar, "let's go coon

"'Why, certainly;, when do0 you

"I will come for you at . p. I.," he
answered. "It is tell mile. to the

black mare for you. She is a daisy, it'

At 4.301 p. i. We mtmllted our"
horses and rode out toward the setting

with just a suspicion of fall inl the
cool, sweet breeze. (In either side
were tangled imasses of wild and
shaggy undergrowth, the tilotsami and
jetsam of the re(tindant lif"c of nature.
Giant oaks and stately pintes stood
guard over these and lofty bamboo
bines climbed to the top for a more
extensive view. Someliimes (lie road
ahead of us woultl seeml to come to ain
abrupt -conchi.ion, the overarching
trees appearing to fornm an iml assable
barrica(le. As wve apl)roacheed they
would open rainks auid onward we
would go. About five iiiles out. we
cale to a lit tle streal ald stopped to
water otur horses. ''hlis little stream
was clear as Crystal, the bot tom being
of hard clay. It slipped out of the
woods in the etleSt mainn'er and,
splreaditg iout to a w idth of three feet
in the rolad, sp:t-kled and glittered,
then dashied into the darlknless of the

A TRIBUTIE TO JOHN KLLY.
What a Once Hostile Journal Now iyayr of the
Dead Tamrany Chief.
It is not as a philanthropist or as a dis
penser of large charities or as a man who
went isuch about doing good to his fellow
nun that John Kelly will becliefly known
in history, yet we doubt whether there is
mother citizen of New York whose death
would touch so many hearts with a sense
)lperso.al loss. Unquestionably the sincere
utl widespread sorrow occasioned by his
leatlh is due in some degree to the gencrous
aln charitab le nature of the man, but it is
the leader rather than the friend whom
most of those who followed and trusted
himt in life will mourn to-day. The po1111
eal followers of Mr. Kelly belong, for the
n(ost p i1t, to a class whose emotions are
easily stirred ard in whom the sentiment
of lotilt y to a leader approaches niuch
