General McCrady is a most painstaking
and reliable historian and a forcible
speaker.
We are credibly informed that Mr. J.
WT. Crawford's cotton averaged over 1,
100 pounds seed cotton per acre. About
ens-third of the laud has been p)lanted in
cotton for mere than 30 years in succes
-sion. About three hundred pounds per
aere was lost by rust and rot.
Mrs, W% M. MoCaslan returned last
Sabbath from a most enjoyable trip to
Greenwood. Her pupils in the Institute
were glad to welcome her, though her
place has been iniost acceptably filled by
Miss Marie McCaslan.
Miss Carrie MeMakin is contributing
much to the success of the Methodist
Sabbath School', by drilling the pupils
in vocal musio. This is a fine op)portu-.
nity for our young folks and we hope
they will improve it. Miss McMakin
should have a class in vocal music at the
Institute.
Mrs. Charlotte Robinson of the upper
portion of Anderson County, died on the
17th instant. She was more than 70
yearn of age and had been for many years
a member of Carmel Church, from which
her remains were buried on' the 18th.
Dr. Riley preached the funeral.
