Mr. R. R. Child has found an alum
deposit on his place, on Twelve Mile
river in this county. He exhibited a
sample in this office last Monday, which
taste very strong of the alum. We hope
he may develop the mine and make a
fortune out of it.

William Massengale, aged about 21
years, died of consumption, at the resi
dence of his mnother-in-law, near this
plai, on the morning of the 25th inst.
He leaves a young widow. Hi:; remains
were interredatt Tabor church on the 26th

thty with the honmst, law abding and in
tolligent portion of our population. This

Died, on the 26th instant, near Six
M~ile, 8. C., M%ary V., infant daughter of
Gleo. A. anid Mary Barrett, aged five
months andl three days.

me, andl forbid them not, for of such is
the kingdom of heaven."
A meeting at Antich Baptist church in
the Eastaltoe section of this county, con
ducted by Revs. D). C. Freeman and G.
W. Singleton, resulted in 14 additions to
the church'by baptism. T1he ordinance
wasw performed by Mr. Freeman on Sat
urday last in Eastaltoe creek. The meet
ing lasted 11 days and nights, with an
intermission of three (lays. The church
was greatly revived and much good ap
parently done.
DIE.-Mrs. Ada Glenn, wife of Mr.
W. D). Glenn, and eldest (daughter of
Dr. R. 3. Giilliland, Sr., of Easley, died
at Liberty Station in this county,-on last
Monday morning, the 27th instant. She
had the benefit of the best medical skill
in the co)untry, but it could not avail to
save her life. She was an earnest and
devoted member of the Pre.sbyterian
church-a true christain and a noble
woman-and her gentle spirit has gone
to God to receive the reward reserved for
those who love and serve Him. Her re
mains wore interred at Carmol on To
day, the 28th instant, the funeral services
being conducted by the Rev. Dr. Riley
of this place. To the disconsolate hus
band, parents and other sorrowing rela
tives and friends we extend our sincere
sympathies.
THIEF Suc-r--For some time Cato 9hmer
man, colored, who lives onl the place of
Mr. Joab Mauldin, has been missing corn
from his fbi3d. He determined to lie-in
wait and see if he could not capture the
thief. On last Sunday night his efforts
were rewarded by the capture of Simon
Vollentinc, colored, though not actually
in Cato's own corn. He caught him in
the act of stealing from the field of 1Rob
Irvine, wvhitih adjoined that of Catoe's,
who was lying a corpse at his house a
the time. Cato dem.andedl Simon's sur
render, but Simon appealed to his heels
to save him, and broke off at a brisk
speed, whoi5upon Cato levelled his fusec
anid put thirty-twvo bird shot in Simon's
back, according to the count of Dr.
Bramlett, who made an examination on
the day following. Simon was given a
preliminary hearing before Justic~e New
bery at this place on Mondey e:id, in de
fault of bond, was Sent to jail to await
trial at the next January term of court.
Simon is an old coon, but will, in all
probality be caged this time, as Slher
man swore positively he was the man,
and the sack whieh has Simon's name on'
it was asptured, besides the 82 bird r;hot
which stand as ovideunce against him.

"Blind Ton," the world renowned
pianist, gave a concert to an intelligent
and appreciative audience in the Insti
tute building at this place on last Tues
day night. He is an idiot in everything
except music and the imitation of sound.
By request of his manager, Miss McCas
lan played a new piece of music. Toni
at once reproduced it without a mistake.
His imitation of the battle of Manasas
was the grandest thing we ever heard.
His phonetic system of spelling is pecu
liarly unique. Those who failed to hear
Tom certainly missed a grand treat.
Redford Bramlett, aged 84 years, died
of cancer on the face at the residence of
his son, W. B. Bramlett, at* Cedar Rock,
in this county, on the 28th instant. He
was buried at Tabor church on the day
following his death.
Married, at the residence of the bride's
father, Rev. John T. Lewis, on the 21st
instant, "y the Rev. J. M. Stewart, Mr.
James Gillespie, of North Carolina, and
Mra. Addie Lynch, of this county.
Mr. Win. Hendricks of Six Mile, is
the happy father of twin boys, and Mr.
T. Youngblood Was presOented with twin
boys the other night, in the sane neigh
horhood. Th increase of boys will
catiso a great demand for girls. Now
