From the Greenville News.
I hsh, poeioed for some time the contro"

liaire also read with pleasure the comments
of The Daily News on the sulject. But I an
surprised at "our 8ssTtIsL" remaining so
quiet while all of this was going on.
In this weeks's issue I see it gives all the
correspontfence but occupies neutral ground,

I know it is ever reany to condemn the
guilty and defend the noble and just. There
is no paper in (the Rtate in a position to

why has it not cone to fhe front, and

It is true Mr. Barrett. lives in Pickens

are sent to the District Clerk's oflice in

We agree with Mr. Niles that tine soner
the negroes are sepnranted from the whiten t
the better it will be for both rnces. There
are entirely too many ntgroes in the South i

whites that the negro was enfranchised by I
the Republican party, and they now repent L
to the very bottom of their hearts, because L
they did such a foolish thing. The en
francbsement of the negro placed a tool in
the hnndu of the Soul I, with which to break t
the head of the Republican partly, that they
never dreanied of. The increnscd power
given the South by the negro vote in Con
gross and the electoral college, would be
gladly taken from her by the Republican
paiy, if it had tie power to do it. Perhaps
that power lies in the Supreme Court. We
have said heretofore, and we reiterate it
here, that, Iin our opinion, it is only a
question of tihne when, the Supreme Court
