ence of this District was held at this
place on last Saturday and Sunday.
Dr. Jones, the Pr'esiding Elder, was
present, and delivered able and highly
interesting sermons on Saturday and
Sunday. His great ability, fine ora
tory and pleasant style of delivery
,makes him a favorite with all our
people, regardless of denomination,
and he never fails to have a full house
to preach to. We only regret that he
car. not visit our place and preach for
9us oftener. We have no doubt he
could do much good in this section.
The clothing of little Essie, daught.

house on last Wednesday, and she
would, probably, have been fatally
burned had it not been for the pres%
ence of mind of Mr. Cary, the teacher.
,Seeing the perilouse condition of the
child, he instantly pulled off his over
coat, caught her, she having started
to run, wrapped his coat around her
and smothered out the flames. The
.right side of the child from the lower
portion of the clothing to the shoulder,
and the right side of the face and
right hand wore painfully burned.

Deputy Marsbal who exhibited such

Kelley through a crack of the house,
whon Gary was shot, was bound over
to the next term of our court by Trial
Jnstico Johnston, of Central, last Sa,
turday. We suppose the charges are
assault and battery upon Mr. Kelley
with intent to kill. The amount of
the bond is $500,
Surprised Again.
MR. EDITOR: We are now occupy
ing the parsonage, a very comforta
ble and suitable one. We moved in
last Wednesday, and after the busy
confusiots of the day had given place
to the quietude of the night fall, and
sat down to rqflot upon the etorte,
labors and circumstances that led to
this result, our musings were dis
turbed by the sudden rushing in of -a
crowd of gentlemen and ladies, boys
and girls, representing almost all the
families as well as all the denomina
tions in town, to welcome us to our
new home. Mr. John R. Gossett, was
the orator of the occasion, and made
a very appropriate speech. We tried
to respond, but you can imagine how
great was our failure, how faltering
our words, how distrhcted our thou
ghts on such an exciting occ-ision.
When we were assured of their kind
feeling by the orators words, their
heerful countenancei, and the many
presents they brought, consinting of
hams, sacks of flour, arid in fact every
thing that is requsite to comfort, in
liberal donations, we were unmaned,
could it be other wise? We had to
depend upon the few brokenieentences
accompanied by the unbidden tear to
exprese ourgratitude arid joy. We
have only to say that it is a pleasure
to servo such a thoughtful and gen
ereus people. Theso acts of kindness
have bound us to them Irn ties that
time nor circumstances can nevcr
sever.
A prayer was offered up for those
good people, and an appropriate stan
za was suing and the crowd diispersedI
and left us to meditate upon the fact
thtwe had not. only been furn ished
wvith a comifortable home, bu t thtt
also which is necessairy for home con,
su mpt ion. I pra.y thait the Lord willI
