He had killed a mad dog in his yard a shorttine before. A young man, while on a mountain trip, is said to have drank two gallons' and g half of buttermilk at one time. Candidates are now mounting the rostrum in Pickens County. A lively time ahead boys, but take it all good humoredly. We regret to learn that Mr. A. S. Smith, a respectable citizen of this County, died at his residenco three and a halt miles cast of this place, on last Saturday. Mr. Barney Jennings has shown us a hen's egg which was two inches and three quarters in length and one inch and three quarters in circufercnce. Maj. R. A. Child thinks he bad a calf to die with hydrophobia on last, Monday. It had refused to drink water all day and about noon com menced bawling and biting in every direction. It soon fell on the ground and in its prostrated condition bit clean ill the grass and shrubbeey within its reach. The Pickonsville Democratic Club will hold a public meeting at Easley on August the 20th. It is very desir, able that there be a full turn out of the members of the club at tils met ing, as there ;, a good deal or impor tant business to be attended to, and that is also the day fixed by the Coun. ty Executive Committee for candi dates to address the people at Easley. RSuL 1. The primary election for Pickens County shall be held on lFri. day, tDe 80th day of August, 1878, at the usual place of meeting of each club. RULE 2. The Secretary of each otub shall make out and furnish a full list of all members of his club to the managers of election, who shall be three in number, appointed by each. local club. The managers of election shall have power to add, in their dis8 cretion, any further names to the poll list of persons who desire to join on the day of election. RULE 8. The polls shall h0 open from 8 o'clock, A. m., to 4 o'clock, P. m. When -the polls are closed the managers shall at once proceed to count the votes, in public, and make a full retuin to tho County Executive Committeo by 12 o'clock on the day after said election. This return shll state specifically the total number of votes cast, together with the number of votes for each candidate, and all the votes together with the poli lists shall be given to the County Execu, tive Committee at the same timo. RULE 4. Tho County Executive Committee shall meet at 11 o'clock, A. M., on the day following the pri mary election, at Pickens C. H. They shall receivo the ballots and ieturne from the sevefl clubs, aggregato such returns, and declare the result of the election. If thore be any contest from any club the said Executive Committee shall have power to hear, and shall at once decide, such contest, and such decision shall be binding and final. RULE 5. No candidato shall be voted for in the said primary election, and if voted for such votes shall not be counted, unless such candidato shall, at the time of' tho clection, be a meii ber of somo Democratic club in Pick ens County, and pledge himself to abide tho result of the priiary elec7 tion and support the nominees of the party. RULE 6. There shall bo voted for at the ensuing priimary election the Following officers: One Senator, two Representatives, ono Judge of Pro, bate, three County Commissioners, one School Comniissionerone Coroner, one County Auditor, one County' reas urer, and one 'I rial Justico for each township. The voters in each towvns ship only shall be entitled to vote tforthe Trial Justice for such townii ip.
