His sicknoess was from milksick, a terrible djseaeo well kqovn in, that -septiows Qaa' informant also. states that Cap. 4ioffian proposed to hand. cuff Mr. Walker, but Mr. Gary inter-. posed and prevented Mr. Hoffman from imposing this additional insult and punishment' upon this helpless sick man. We give the statement as it comes to us, and direct the -atten, tion of the committee of the Grand Juxy, wIb&are now engaged in investi gatIng htbeAe qevenuo.outrages, to the same, arid'trhst they will give it a thorough Investigation and bring out all the facts connected therewith. If this statement bo Arue, and we at. this time have no reason to doubt it, this is the most attrocious ontrage' of the many yet cointnitted on out citizens. If Mr. Walker is guilty of a viola, tion of the revenue laws, it is no ex cuse for the harsh treatment visited upon him by these officials. A boy ten years old could have arrested Mr. Walker f6r ho was not, we at in formed, ablo to sit up when arreFted, and had not been out of his bed for three weeks. We wonder where the portable Commissioner was who Mr. Hoffman carries along to give prisoners a hear, ing, with a view to release them on the ground when the parties are able to give bond, 'or there is no evidence adduced sufficient to warrant their confinement in jail. The Antecedents oi Disease. A mong the antecedent,s of .disease are inertnoess in the circulation of the \blood. an unnaturally attenuated con, dition of the physique, indicating that the life current is deficient in nutri tive properties, a wan, haggard look, inability to digest t,he food, 108s of ap'i petitee, sleep and strength, and a sen sation of rnnatural langour. All thdse may be regarded as among the indi cia of approaching disease, which will evidently attack the system and overwhelm it, if it is not built up and fortified in advance.
