'o JURY-On last Saturday the
Jury Commissioner of this County,
Mi-. W. T. Bowen, with the Clerk of
the Court, Sheriff anid Chairman of
4hc Board of Counaty Comnmissionors,
assembled at this place for the pur
pose of drawing the juries for our next
court which convenes next Monday.
Mr. Lesi\y, the former Jury Comnmis,

* iwithi the list of those from whom the
jufres-were to be drawn. It wvill be
reinbured'that Mr. Lesley, as Jury
Osaimissioner, prepared tbo jury list
In January, claiming at the time that
his term of office had not expired, al
thoujgh Mr. Bowen had been appointed
by:.oyernor Hampton at the time,
and had qualified and received his
commlission. The Clerk of the Court,
Mr. S. D. Keith, wrote a letter to
8elicitor Cothran, asking his opinion
a'& tio who was the proper person to
prepare the jury list, stating in ti.e
letto! that Mr. Lesley had not been
nStifled of removal from office, or that
his teafm of office had not expired.
This was the understanding of Mr.
Keith, as well as of everybody else;
bgt', after' Mr. Lesley had prepared the
juiry list, he acknowledged that he had
reejdited notice of removal from Gov.
Hampton. .It was then too late to
prepare another -list, as the law re
e qqigspthat it shall be made up during
thb month of January. Mr. Lesley's
terap of office, under his old comnmis
efl, exp, ired some time before last
Saturday, and the yen ire was served
on Mr. Blowen, as Jury Commissioner.
$bi4 jpry box was in prosses~sion of
Isoy, and Mr. Bowen made a for,
* I$af 'demand on him to turn It over,
hgilkbe refused to do, and claimed
the.rlght to draw the jury under a
new appointment under Chamberlain.
'the. Clerk of Court, Capt. J. J. Lewis,
tWo Sheriff, Joab Mauldin, and the
* Girpnan of the Board of County
Ooma*issioners, B. 3. Johnston, refus
