Theic are many who will learn
with sincere regret of the death of
Dr. W. W. Daniel, which occurred
at his home in KlngstreO, S. C., last
Monday. Dr. Daniel had boen In
railing health for some Hmo; in fact,
it was due lo Ibis cause that ho was
forced to glvo up the presidency of
the Methodist Collogo in Columbia.
But Dr. Daniel was unwilling to re
tire from activo servico in his church
and returned to tho ministerial work,
('eoling that ho could continue to
serve in that capacity. Rut tho work
was too great there alsd. and for a
long time past he had been forced,
after almost every preaching service,
to retire to his bed. often remaining
for a day or more at a time. He was
an earnest, tireless, zealous worker
for tho Master, and it was his desire
"to die in harness," which ho did,
for he continued his ministerial work
to the very last of hts strength. Ho
was a great power In tho Mothodlst
church in this State, and lils death
will be felt ns a heavy loss to tho de
nomination and to tho Stute. Dr.
Daniel was well known all ovor South
Carolina. Ho was a nativo of Lau
rens county and was about (5 0 or
(>r> years of age. In 1883 (Aug. 29)
bo was happily married to .Miss Alice
Rowena Aull, of Dyson, ridgefield
county, she being a sister of Rev. W.
H. Aull, of Walhalla. There ure four
children surviving, these being Mrs.
Huron Sidbury, of Wilmington, S.e.,
Dorman and Walter and Miss .Inila
Daniel, who r.re located in this State.
Mrs. Daniel also survives. The fu
neral and interment will take place
to-day (Wednesday), but lt was not
known hore where tho interment
would bo. Tho bereaved ones have
the sympathy of many friends in this
.ir of sorrow. Dr. Daniel is sur
vived by threo brothers-Rev. J. L.
Daniel, of Newberry; Rev. J. w. Dan
iel, of Sumter, and Lemuel l)u? i cl.
of Laurens. Prof. D. W. Daniel, of

No Hush for British Ships.
London, Sept. If?,-The London
Times. In its financial notes, says
that, although considerable buying
of cotton has lately been reported
from the United States, there has
been no corresponding activity hero
In freights, as is usual at this time
of the year, adding:
"Heforo the war the chartering of
British steamers for whole cargoes
of cotton would have proceeded daily
at London during September. This
year there appears as yet no sign of
such business. The d .maud for ton
nage to load cotton was one of tho
factors to which ship brokers were
accustomed to look before tho war
for the usual autumn revival In the
freight markets."
The Times explains that to some
extent this absence of chartering is
undoubtedly accounted for by tho
loading at Gulf ports of m:-.ny Amer
ican steamers for Europe with gene
ral cargoes.

THE UNIVERSAL CAR
ANNO TJ NCE ]Vt E N T .
Mr, Edsel B. Ford, President of the Ford Motor Company, makes the fol
lowing announcement:
"We are making another reduction in thc prices of Ford cars and the Ford
trucks, effective September 2, 1921. The new prices average $70,00 under
former prices, and are the lowest at which Ford cars and trucks have ever been
sold. List prices, F. O, B, Detroit, are now as follows:
NEW PRICE. OIJD PRICE. Reductio 1.
CHASSIS.$305.0?) $343.00 $ 50.00
KUNA KOUT.S25.00 370.00 4?. 00
TOUKINU UAH. 355.00 415.OO ?0.00
TRUCK. 445.00 105.OO 5O.00
COT IMO . 505.'KI ?05.00 100.00
SUDAN . 060.00 7?0.?O 100.00
This is thc third price cut during the past twelve months. On Sept, 22,
1920, the price of the Ford touring car was reduced from $575 to $440; June
7th to $415, and now to $355, making total reductions in this type of $220, or
38 per cent. Thc same proportionate reductions have been made in all other
types. One year ago the price of the Ford Sedan was $975; now it lists at
$660 with the same equipment.
Wc are taking advantage of every known economy in the manufacture of
our products in order that wc may give them to the public at thc lowest possible
price, and by doing that, wc feel that we arc doing the one big thing that will
help this country into more prosperous times. People are interested in prices,
and arc buying when prices are right.
The production of Ford cars and trucks for August again broke all previous
high records with the total reaching $117,696. This is the fourth consecutive
month in which our output has gone over the hundred mark, the total for the
four months being 463,074, which has gone a long way in making; possible the
thc present reductions. June this year, with an output of 117,247, was the
previous record month.
One noteworthy feature of our sales is the increased demand for Ford
trucks and cars for salesmen. This class of commercial business has been
gradually increasing the past sixty days and wc interpret it as a very good sign
of improvement in general business.
No reduction has been made in the price of the Fordson tractor, and none
is contemplated.
Go over these new prices! Sec how little it costs to become the owner of
a Ford car or a Ford truck. Can you really afford to do without one any longer?
Let us tell you more about it, and advise you regarding the delivery of the
particular type of car in which you you are interested.
