those who feel inclined will add to
their contributions such amounts as
they feel able. No large contributions
are sought. Tho idea is simply the
carrying out of a popular campaign

Cull tho Karly Molting Hen.
All lions lay eggs in tho spring and
early summer, but from now on there
is a* big drop in egg production. In
order to save feed bills, and to give
tlic poultry Mock a better chance, it
pays lo cull Hu* poor layers and keep
only those chickens thal will pay a
pro lit,
The hen (hat lays only a lew eggs
tn ibo stiring and early summer isl
usually '?> very "'arly molter--that ls,
she sheds her feathers anywhere)
from July lo tho middle of Septem-!
ber. Thai is caused by the fact th.it
shu ls a poor layer she lays h jr
(.Ilitch of eggs and then starts m lib
ing her feathers. The hen that ls a
good layer will start laying In the
early spring and will continue to pro
duce eggs (luring tho hot summer
months. She is so busy manufactur
ing eggs thal she does not have Hmo
to shed her feathers and put on a
new coat till late in Hie fall.
A hen that molts before the -lid
dle of September ls a poor producer.
She has probably laid from Ul) to SO
eggs, or hardly enough to pay for tho
feed she has consumed. The hen that
does not molt until after the middle
of September is usually a heavy layer
and has doubtless producod a hun
dred or more eggs before she has had
time to start molting. Hate molters
will also shed their feathers in a
much shorter space of lime than the
early molters.
In connection with Ibo culling
campaign that the County Home
Demonstration Agent is putting on
in Oconee county this fall the early
molting hen is thc ono to he dis
charged. Tim old theory of keeping
the early molting hen has been ex
ploded. Save money and feed bills
and make tho poultry flock one of
the best paying branches of the farm.
Either kill or market Hie hen that
sheds her feathers before the middle
of September.
