WALHA!
IT PAYS TO B
-TO THE
Democratic Voters
-OF- I
Oconee County:
On account of my official duties
and the inclement weather, 1 find
that it will be impossipble for me to
see all of the voters in this county
before the primary election on Aug
ust the 31st, so I am taking this
method of soliciting your careful
consideration of my candidacy.
Since I asked your suffrage four1
years ago the rights of our country
to sail her vessels upon tho seas j
when her business required, and to
maintain the Constitution as out
lined by our forefathers, bas been
challenged by the Cern?an Empire,1
who believed that Might was Hight.
During that struggle for Liberty
and Justice our Government called
upon me to render a service which
was a very unpleasant duty to per
form, and even had 1 so desired 1
could not have honorably escaped
this service.
We acted upon the cases that were
presented to us without fear or fa
vor: We delivered the record of our
acts and doings to the Government
that asked us to do the work, and
we have received an honorable dis
charge, and J wish to deny, very
emphatically, the charges made
against me by some of the citizens
of this county that 1 received money
or other valuable consideration for
deferring any registrant from mili
tary servico during that war. Most
of the cases complained of were cases
wholly within the jurisdiction of the
District Board of Greenwood, S. C.,
and 1 would respectfully refer you
to that board in speaking of those
cases handled by that board instead
of charging them against usv
1 purchased Liberty Bonds, freely,
from a patriotic standpoint; I do
nated to the funds of the American
lied Cross and other welfare work,
during the war. However, by reason
of my services to our Country my re
election is being opposed to the ut
termost by tho disloyal German ele
ment in Oconee County.
You elected mo os Clerk of Court
four years ago by a very large ma
jority. Sinco you have honored me
with this office I have made a great
many improvements upon the rec
ords, having transcribed all of the
deeds affecting our County from An
derson and Piekens Counties, prior
to the year 1868, and have re-in
dexed all of tho real estate mort
gages sinco tho year 1891. I have re
Indexed the Judgments since the for
mation of Oconee County. I have
Indexed all of the Sessions papers
during my term of office, according
to law. I have re-Indexed Lispendens
and Attachments in a modern way.
for which services I did not receive
one cont except tho amount I paid
over to the ones employed by me to
do tho writing. The last two Items
mentioned affect very materially the
title to your real estate. I have never
charged any of the churches, public
schools, nor any charitable institu
tion, any foo for services rendered
them during my administration. 1
have waited upon the public prompt
ly nnd with patience, whenever called
upon, and have remained In my office
for long hours during the day In
transacting business for the public.
My position that. 1 wish to state
for your consideration at the ballot
box on August tho thirty-first ls that
1 stand for a constituted govern
ment; for our freedom of the seas;
. for tho principles we have stood for
for one hundred and forty-five years,

pendence os adopted by tho Colonial
Convention on July 4th, 177C, under

which we have defended our Country
in every crisis since that time.
Upon thii position, and upon my
past record, 1 offer you my service
for re-election to this most responsi
ble office, and if re-elected 1 assure
you that I will serve you tc the best
of my ability in the future, as 1 have
in the past.
JOHN F. CRAIG,
Candidate for Re-election,
(adv) Office of Clerk of Court.
TO THE VOTERS
OE OCONEE.
As the day for tho election draws
near, every voter will decide upon
the candidate who can best serve his
county.
So far OH ability is concerned, any
intelligent man can discharge the du
ties of Coroner. Tho main essential
ls in having a man who lives near
the center of tho county, and who
can be found at all times. In case
of a death, the Coroner ls wanted at
once.
I live at Walhalla, in the center of
the county. I can be reached by tele
phone from all parts of the county.
I will appreciate your taking these
fncts into consideration in making
your choice for Coroner.
Yours truly,
(adv.-33-3<1) GEO. L. JONES.
