Cotton is reported as "poor to bad" in all cotton States, and in almost every county of the cotton belt, ac cording to the department's official figures. The recurring statement, "Worst ever known," is confirmed hy the reported conditions ligure of 62.4 per cent of normal, which is the low est at this date in the bureau's rec est at this date in tho bureau's record of fifty years, the low est in that period previous to the present crop hoing that of 1917,which was 69.6. Hearing standards with inscrip tions directed against the British government, seven of the women ap peared before the treasury. One of their number carried an oil-soaked "Union .lack." which she flung on the pavement and then applied a match. As the flag vanished In flames Miss Mary Keana, of New York, the leader of the hand..kicked the smoul dering ashes and shouted: ".lust another little Posion tea party to remind the assassins not to go too far." No arrests were made, and the wo men returned to their headquarters. Investigate Burning of Flag. Washington, .lune 3.-The State Department to-day asked the District of Columbia commissioners for a statement of fact as to the burning of a British flag yesterday In front of the Treasury Building by women sympathizers with Irish freedom. The department acted on Its own initiative, officials stated, no protest against the action of the women having been made hy the British embassy. No arrests were made when tho flag was burned, and none has been ordered as yet. The women have in the past picketed the Treasury fre quently, and their burning of tho ffag passed almost unnoticed, as tho pre .once of the banner-bearers at the building had ceased to excite public curiosity. State Department officials would not indicate what action will he tak en after the report as to the facts has been received. Oath as Mexican President. Mexico City, June 2.-Adolfo do la Huerta, who was last week elected provisional president of Mexico, yes terday took the oath of office in tho Chamber of Deputies. There was a great military display, the galleries of tho chamber were crowded, and thousands thronged tho streets. The new provisional president ap peared to be far from well. In the special diplomatic gallery were officials of the Chinese legation, who confirmed reports thal their gov ernment had instructed them to ex tend de jure recognition of the pro visional government. LAD IS INJURED BY A FALL. Anderson Lml Hurt When lie Fell from A Working Tractor. (Anderson Daily .Mail, 2d.) Jack Henderson, the 11-year-old son of R. D. Henderson, had his leg badly cut on Monday afternoon hy a harrow. Ho was riding on the rear of a tractor and fell off, and tho har row ran over his leg, indicting a deep cut. A belt was placed tightly about the limb to check tho dow of blood, and tho boy was rushed to the An derson County Hospital, where he re ceived attention. He is doing well at this time, but had a close call. In this connection, lt. D. Hender son asks all users of tractors not to permit any one to ride on a harrow drawn by a tractor. If moro weight is needed, he says by all means put a log or other heavy article on the harrow. It is also very dangerous for any one to ride on a tractor except tho driver. The driver has something to hold to, and on uneven ground any ono riding on tho rear of the trac tor is liable to be thrown off and in Jured. Little William Barr, the two and a half-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Harr, of this city, died at 10.I? o'clock this morning after in tense suffering caused from caitng a box of pills.
