sale, barter or exchange, giving away,
receipt, acceptance, delivery, storing
or keeping in possession, within the
Town of Walhalla, of any spirituous, |
malted, fermented or brewed liquors '
or wine, or selling or compounding i

and is used or intended to be used ns

cent of alcohol, for his, her, Its or
their own use, or for tho use of any
other person, firm or corporation, ex
cept as hereinafter provided.
Section 4. Any person In said town
may order and receive from any point
without the State not exceeding one
quart within any calendar month for
his or her personal use of spirituous,
vinous, fermented or malted liquors
or beverages.
Section 5. Any person violating-any
Of the provisions of this Ordinance
shall be subject to a fine of not more
than $*100 or imprisonment for not
more than thirty days for overy such
offense.
Section 6. That this Ordinance
shall be deemed general and per
petual, shall go into effect upon its
publication, and continue of force
until repealed or amended.

ORDINANCE NO. 7.
An Ordinance to Raise Supplies mid
Make Appropriations for tho Town
of Walbalia for the Year 1018.
'Be it Ordained by the Mayor and
Aldermen of tho Town of Walhalla,
in Council assembled, and by author
ity of the same:
Se?tlon 1. That a tax of seventy
cents on each one hundred dollars of
the assessed value of all real and per
sonal property be levied for ordinary
town purposes to defray current ex
penses during the fiscal year com
mencing January 1st, 1918. '
Section 2. That a tax of fifteen
cents on each one hundred dollars of
the assessed value of all real and per
sonal property bo levied for the pur
pose of paying the interest on, and
creating a sinking fund for the re
tirement of, railroad bonds.
?Section 3. That a tax of fifteen
couts on each one hundred dollars of
the assesacd Value of all real ?and per
sonal property be lovied for the pur
pose Of pay In.g tho interest on and
creating a sinking fund for the re
tirement of electric light bonds. '
Section 4. That the tax on real and
personal property, as provided for in
Soc tiona 1, 2 and 3 of this Ordinance,
shall be paid into the office of the
Treasurer of tho Town between the
1st day of May, 1918, and tho 1st day
of June, 1918! according to the as
sessments made by the Town Board
of Assessors: Provided, That any
property within the corporate limits
on the 1st day of May, not returned
to the County Auditor, shall be listed
and assessed by the Town Board of
Assessors for taxation.
Section 5. That on all circuses and
other shows a tax ot one to one hun
dred dollars per day, in the discre
tion of the Mayor, shall bo paid.
Section1 6. That each and every
person liable to road duty under the
laws of the State shall work on the
streets eight days, or -pay at the rate
if 50i conts per day, under the direc
tion of the Mayor or some ono in his
stead, under tho same penalty as
prescribed by the laws of the State

Section 10. The Town Council
hereby reserves the right to revoke
any license for any cause which may
seem to It just.
Section ll. That all licenses shall
he paid for oue year In advance, and
shall be dated on the first day of the
month issued, and shall continue In
force until the 1st day of the follow
ing February, when a new llcense_
shall be required, and the amount on
license issued not. used shall be cred
ited as cash on new license, and the
licensee shall be required to pay for
one year In advance, less tho balance
of old license.
Section 12. That any person or
persons carrying on or prosecuting
any business or oceup?tion, or run
ning any establishment named in
this or preceding Sections without
first having taken out a license there
for, shall be fined or imprisoned, at
the discretion of tho Mayor, within
the limits of his authdrlty, except in
cases where special penalties are im
posed. No license shall be issued for
a less period than one year, dated
from the first day of the month in
which the same ls Issued. For any
business, occupation or profession
not enumerated in the foregoing Sec
tions, the license shall be regulated
by the M'ayor.
Section 13. The tax on real or per
sonal property provided for in this
Ordinance shall he paid during the
month of May, 1918; the license or
occupation tax by March 1, 1918,
and any person or persons who shall
fail to pay such taxes on or by the
1st day of June, 1918, or the 1st day
of March, 1918, respectively, shall
be liable to a penalty of 7 per cent
on such tax,' and the tax, with tho
penalty and cost, shall be collected
by execution or otherwise.
Section 14. That any person, Arm
or corporation making any false or
fraudulent return, where a return is
by this Ordinance required, shall,
upon conviction, be fined or Impris
oned, at the discretion of the Mayor.
Section 15. That this Ordinance
shall be deemed general and per-'
petual, shall go into effect upon its
publication, and continue of force
until repealed or amended.

Be it Ordained by the Mayor and

Section 1. The Clerk and Treasu
rer shall give bond in the sum of two
thousand dollars, with good and sulll
clent sureties, for the faithful per
formance of his duties.
Section 2. Ho shall ho paid a sal
ary of twenty ($20) dollars per
month, payable monthly, from any
funds in the Treasury available for
ordinary town purposes.
Section 3. lie shall attend all reg
ulad and called meetings of the
Council and koop a true and accurate
record of tho proceedings. J
Section l. Ho shall receive/all
funds belonging or coming Into the
Town Treasury, collect all moneys
which may be, or hereafter- become
duo tho town for either street tax,
special license tntx, rents, sanitary
dues, fines and regular property tax
and cemetery receipts.
Section 5. He shall deposit all
funds coming Into his hands ns Trea
surer of the Town in bank, or banks,
to the credit of Ibo Town of Wal
halla, and shall pay all claims passed
by the Council with checks.
Section 6. Ho shall report, ia
writing, to the Council at each and
every regular meeting all persons,
firms or corporations failing or re
fusing to pay any tax whatsoever im
posed by the Council.
Section 7. Ho shall submit, in
vrlting, to tho Council, (monthly) a
ruo and accurate report of ntl ro

Section 8. That this Ordinance

maintain for use any pig or hog pen,
uxcopt where same can bo so located
as to be not less than 100 feet dist
ant from the well and residence of
the owner, and also 100 feet distant
from the well and residence of any
other person, and 100 feet distant
from the well or residence of any
property, vacant or occupied, within
the corporate limits of the said Town
of Walhalla. All pons must contain
floors to be not less than IS Inches
from the ground, and same must be
kept In stich condition as at nb time
to become a nuisance or offensive.
Section 2. That any person or per
sons kee ling a pig or hog. pigs or
hogs, or maintaining for use any pig
or hog pen within the corporate lim
its ol' the Town of Walhalla after
publication of this Ordinance, except
where the provisions of Section 1 of
this Ordinance can be complied with,
shall be deemed guilty of a misde
meanor, and shall be subject to a
flub of not less than Ave ($5) dollars,
or imprisonment at hard labor, not
less than ten days, and not more than
$25 line, nor more than thirty days'
imprisonment at hard labor, at the
discretion of tho Mayor.
Section 3. That this Ordinance
shall be deemed general and per

All Ordinance Regulating the Run
ning of Motor! Vehicles Within tho
Town of Walhalla.
De it Ordained by the Mayor and
Aldermen'of the Town of Walhalla?
In Council assembled, and by author
ity of the same:
Section 1. No person shall operate
a motor vehicle on a pifblic streot
within the corporate limits of the
Town of Walhalla at a rate of speed
greater than is reasonable and proper
at the time and place, having regard
to the traffic and use of tTie street
and Its condition, or so as to endan
ger the life, limb or property of any
person, or in any event at a greater
rate than fifteen (15) miles an hour,
subject, however, to thc other provis
ions of this Ordinance.
Section 2. s Upon approaching a
crossing of intersecting streets, or
a sharp curve, or a corner, or n steep
descent, or a bridge, and also in trav
ersing such crossing, curve, descent
or bridge, a person operating a motor
vehicle shall have lt under control,
and operated at a rate of speed uo
greater than six miles an hour, and
in no event greater than is reasona
ble and proper, having regard to the
traffic then on such street and the
safety of the public.
Section 3. Any person operating a
motor vehicle shall, at tho intersec
tion of streets, keep to the right of
the intersection of the center of
such streets when turning' to the
right and pass to the left of such in
tersection of centers when turning to
the left.
Section 4. Every motor vehicle,
while in use on. a street, shall bo pro
vided with good and efficient brakes,
and also with a suitable bell, horn or
other signal, and be so constructed as
t.o exhibit during the perl?n neces
sary from or after sunset until not
necessary before sunrise a white light
visible within unreasonable distance
in the direction--' towards which the
vehicle is proceeding, and a red light
in reverse direction.
Section 5. No mechanical device,
known as cut-out, shall be used on
any motor vehicle within tho corpo
rate limits of the Town of Walhalla.
Section fi. "Motor vehicle." as
used in this Ordinance, includes all
vehicles propelled by gasoline or
other explosive vapor, steam, elec
tricity or other kindred power, whe
ther commonly known as automobile,
locomobile, or motorcycle.
Section 7. Any person violating
any Section of this Ordinance shall
be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor,
and upon conviction, shall bo pun
ished hy Ano or Imprisonment, at the
discretion of tho Mayor or Aldermen,
within the limits of his or their au
thority.
Section 8. That this Ordinance
shall be deemed general and per
petual, shall go into effect upon its
publication, and continuo of force
until repealed or amended.

vertisement, or advertising mattor on

ten days nor more than thirty days,
or pay a fine of not less than ten'dol
