WALHALLA, 8. C.:
_
WE OXES DAV, SEPT. Hi, 1017.
WALHALLA MUST HAVE IT.
The word "must" ls correct. We
have been saying for a long while
that Walhalla needs a hotel, ought
to have a hotel, is hampered without
a hoted, ?-le. etc. Now comes a man
who has been in Walhalla in a busi
ness capacity for some months, is in
terested in the growth and prosper
ity of the town, and lie says Walhalla
MUST have a hotel. We agree with
liini most heartily. Here is in brief
what this business mau among us,
but not yet entirely of us, says:
"Walhalla must have a hotel.
lt is to every one's interest to have
one. and a good one. People want
to visit your town, but they can't;
you want them to come, and you
cannot invite them.
"Von lia ve tho pretties! and
most conveniently situated moun
tain town anywhere to lie found.
Rut how can people lind this out
when you have no hotel at which
to entertain them? You have Hie
churches, schools, air, mountains,
and the best water and the best
people,
"Why can't you get together? I
am with you most heartily if there
ls anytbing I can do."
So thora wo are, The gentleman
(Rioted above is "with us" if there is
anything he can do. One thing is
certain, and (Ital is (hat he is not
ready to come in among us and do
ALU. No other sane man is going to
come into our midst and attempt to
do single-handed what the people of
I he community ought to do for them
selves. ||(> is willing to li ol p -will
ing even to take a load lint lie natu
rally wants to know that the people
ol' Walhalla are solidly back ol' and
with him.
If the people ol' Walhalla want a
?
the ability to do tilings, will take
enough interest to inquire at this of
fice as to the identity of this man,
and then support him in a whole
souled off>>rt to get. at the earliest
possible moment. what Walhalla
must have?
The proposition is open!
Germany Regrets Issues.

Stockholm, Sept. 17.-A great lib

ures to (dearly demonstnrle to tho
Swedish people a determination to
maintain absoluto neutrality.

sociated Press that ho is sa tis H ed
that the expulsion of Count Luxhurg,
the German minister lo Argentina,
has not closed the incident growing!
out ol' tlie telegrams the minister

legation here. The minister said lie |
would rot grant (lie request ol' the
Senate to explain tile situation at a |
secret session, a.- Hie government
thinks it would lie imprudent to dis- j
cuss t'ne matter now.

Pershing's Message to Mon.
New York, Sept. 13.-?en. Per
shing has sent a message to American
soldiers through the American Bible
Society. lt will be Inserted In thc
small khaki-covered Testaments, lt
reads:
"Aroused against a nation waging
war in violation of ail Christian prin
ciples, our people are lighting in the
cause of liberty. Hardships will be
your lot. but trust In God will give
you comfort. Temptation will befall
you, hut Hie teaching? of our Saviour
will give you strength. Let your
valor as soldiers and your conduct as
men be an Inspiration to your com
rades and an honor to your country."
V.-M. Village News.
The people of the mill village at
Walhalla certainly appreciate the Im
provements in the village which are
being made by the company. The
dwelling houses have been repaired
and painted, also equipped with wa
terworks and electric lights.
There are six new houses being
erected, and each will be nice enough
for a chief to dwell in. The streets
and sidewalks have recently been re
paired by the company, and they are
better than they have been for seve
ral years.
Our school has just opened, and
we have two teachers. We are look
ing for a good and prosperous school.
Miss Frances ll ix is principal.
We have had a raise on our wages,
and now receive with our weekly pay
a IO per cent bonus, and also a
monthly premium. These "lifts"
come itt mighty good, and we appre
ciate the good deeds of the Vlctor
Monaghan Company more than we
can express in words or deeds.
Kev. A. P. Marett filled his ap
pointment here last Sunday, deliv
ering two good sermons, one at 11
o'clock a. m. and the other Sunday
night, to large and attentive congre
gations.
Prayer meeting is held each Wed
nesday night at the Baptist church
in the mill village. Come. V.

Sowing Time is
Here -
It is not thc seed that we expect SOME DAY to
sow which brings results, but the seed that we have
ACTUALLY sown that brings the harvest. Mere
intentions to insure, no matter how good and gener
ous, amount to nothing unless translated into actual
deeds. Your wife and children cannot pay off your
groceryman or a mortgage with your worthless inten
tions. It is going to take actual money.
