EVASION BYT HEART STIMULANT.
New Yorkers Take Strong Stimulant
to Affect Action of Heart.
New York, July 31.-Evidence
that young men were plotting to
evade conscription by the use of a
heart stimulant, which would cause
their rejection by medical examiners
was laid before United States Dis
trict Attorney Caffey to-day by Dep
uty Attorney General Conkling, rep
resenting the New York Adjutant
General. An immediate investigation
was ordered.
Mr. Conkling obtained the infor
mation from a man whose name he
withheld, but who told him that a
physician of pronounced pro-German
sympathies had arranged to treat two
young men with the drug previous to
their examination by the darft ex
emption hoard of their district.
Dr. Karl Gsterhaus, of the bureau
of information for medical examiners,
said it would be an easy matter to
detect the presence of the drug, and
that tests would be applied in every
case of unusual heart activity.
Louis Berger, who signed himself
as treasurer of the New York Vege
tarian Society, to-day wrote to Mr.
Conkling asking whether members of
the organization would be exempt
from conscription because of consci
entious scruples against war. He
wrote that members of the society
were opposed to killing any living
thing.
"Perhaps if you would devote a
little more time to trying to be real
Americans, and be willing to sacri
fice a little bit toward defending the
honor of this country," Mr. Conkling
wrote in reply, "instead of worrying
about vegetarian societies and ex
emptions at this particular time, you
might sleep better at night and have
the feeling you had been doing some
thing worth while."

YES ! LIFT A CORN
OFF WITHOUT PAIN.
Cincinnati Authority Tells How to
Dry Up a Con? or Callus so It
Lifts Off With Fingers.
You corn-pestered men and women
need suffer no longer. Wear the shoes
that nearly killed you before, says
this Cincinnati authority, because a
few drops of freezone applied direct
ly on a tender, aching corn or callus,
stops soreness at once and soon the
corn or hardened callus loosens so it
can be lifted out, root and all, with
out pain.
A small bottle of freezone costs
very little at any drug store, but will
positively take off every hard or soft
corn or callus. This should be tried,
as it is inexpensive and is said not to
irritate the surrounding skiu.
If your druggist hasn't any free
zone tell him to get a small bottle for
you from his wholesale drug house.
lt is fine stuff and acts like a charm
every time.-Adv.
