The management of the Washing

is in the dumps. The penitentiary

! In addition to this, Hu; Institution
has hoon depended on to supply con

Now there is trouble on hand, and

The shortage of convict labor is so

HUSBAND IN'DESPAIR
SICK ALL HER LIFE
Wife Had Ceased Eating and
Suffered Continually.
Has Appetite Now.
Mrs. J. ll. Johnson, of No. 7 Char
lotto street. Charleston, wife of J.
It. Johnson, the well-known engineer
on tho Seaboard Air Line Railroad,
after having received medical advice
in Virginia*, North Carolina and Ten
nessee at different intervals since she
was Hf teen years of age to the effect
that she was suffering from ulcerated
stomach and gall stone, gives a vivid
illustration of what Tanbie is daily
accomplishing for like sufferers.
She had stomach trouble all her
life, was prone to tits of vomiting and
was absolutely lacking in appetite.
Aller taking only two doses of Tan
lac, she declares, she ate the Ilrst food
that she had eaten in sixteen weeks.
"1 suffered from stomach trouble
all my life," states Mrs. Johnson.
When I was two years old I was given
up by my physicians to die, and
again when I was fifteen years old.
I have had, according lo eminent
medical advice in Virginia. North
Carolina and Tennessee, gall stone
and ulcerated stomach, and they
finally said an obstruction in my sto
mach. On consulting medical advice
in Charleston, I was informed that
it was impossible to state just what
the trouble was.
"My most distressing symptom
was vomiting. For sixteen weeks be
fore I took Tanbie I had been una
ble to retain anything on my sto
mach- not even medicine or raw
eggs. I was told that I would have
died for lack ol' nourishment If I
had not been so stout. I weighed
227 pounds before I took sick, and
I have really lived on superfluous
flesh for bodily nourishment. My
husband had given up nil hope. Ono
evening recently 1 remarked how
badly and emaciated I looked. Mr.
Johnson burst out crying, and said,
'Lucy, don't say that. Just think!
One month ago I thought you would
die. I had given up all hope, and
here yon tire nearly well.'
"lt is true. I have taken a little
over three bottles of Tnnlac. After
laking only two doses-now, don't
laugh; lt ls a fact-after I had taken
two doses I ate tho first food I had
eaten in sixteen weeks. 1 consider
that wonderful indeed. I am now
eating nearly everything I want. I
havo not vomited since I took my
fooond dose of Tanlac and I am feel
ing miich stronger.
"I certainly do recommend Tanlac
for what ls has done for mo. I had
nearly given up hopo, and Tanlac has
done what T didn't think any medi
cine or physician could do. It ls sim
ply wonderful. I ctnnot say enough

MARRIAGE AT DEATH'S DOOR.
Immediately Alter Ceremony Bride
(Joes Under Surgeon's Knife.
(Elberton, Ga., Star, .hine 2.)
A marriage of wide interest
throughout lalbert county, the for

bride, occurred on Thursday after
noon at I o'clock at the home of Mr.
and -Mrs. J. E. Conwoll, Lavonia,
Qa. Tlie contracting parties were
Miss Lula'Mae Con well and Dr. Stew
art Drown, The groom is one of the
leading physicians and surgeons ol'
this section of the State, and the
bride is a young woman of culture
and refinement. Their wedding was
planned on au elaborate scale, and
was to have been one of the 'biggest
church weddings in the history of
j the little city of Lavonia. How
j ever, on the wedding day the plan
I uns changed, on account of the de
velopment of an acute attack ol* ap
I pendicitis from which the bride-to
j be suffered Wednesday night.. The
. case developed rapidly, and a speedy
' oporation became imiterai i ve. The
j church wedding plans were hastily
changed and tho marriage was
quietly performed at the home by
j Dev. M. B. Sams, pastor of the Meth
I odist church, at 1 o'clock Tuesday
afternoon. Immediately alter the
i ceremony Dr. Boland, ol' Atlanta,
I operated on tho bride for appondi
I eilis. The operation was successful,
and a speedy recovery of Mrs. Drown
I is confidently predicted. This mar
riage, tinged with romance, not un
mixed with pathos and a suggestion
of the tragic, is of more interest in
tolbert county because ol' the fact
that the bride's parents are native
here. Mrs. Conwoll is a daughter
of Mrs. A. C. Fortson, of (loss, and
has a large family connection In this
section, as has Mr. Con well, also.
