American Boat Seized by British.
Philadelphia, Pa.. Aug. I. -A ca
blegram received here yesterday an
nounced the .seizure of the American
schooner Laura C. Anderson by a
British cruiser, which took her into
Gibraltar. The schooner dei red
from Newport .News, Va., .lune 20th,
for M el i lia, Morocco, with a caigo of
bituminous coal.
The message, which was received
by agents for the schooner, contained
no further information, lt request
ed that the consignee's naino bo ca
bled to tho British admiralty. From
this request the agents hero assumed
that the cargo was shipped "to or
der." If this is so, the agents de
clared, a mistake was made at New
port News in cloaring tho vessel. The
clearance paters, they said, have con
tained the consignee's name. The
coal was shipped by a New York
firm and the agents expected to for
ward the name as soon as they hoard
from New York.
