ATTORNEY KILLS MAX HU SUED.
Arrest Kollows Tragedy Which Grow
Out of Dispute Over Account.
Branchville, Dec. 15.-Abe Reali
st im-, one of the most prominent
young business men of Branchville,
this morning was shot and killed by
.lohn J. Jones, a well known attorney
of this place. The killing, which oc
curred In the post ellice at 0.45, fol
lowed a list Icu ff arising out of a dis
pute regarding an account which
Jones, it is said, had collected from
Pearlstine, bul had not turned In to
the linn which had employed him to
make the collection. Jones was ar
rested and taken to Orangeburg,
where ho ls now in the custody of the
sheriff.
About 9.45 o'clock Mr. Peartsttne
went to the post oftlce, While he
was in the lobby ot the ellice Jones
walked in. Pearls!?ne handed Jones
n paper which, it is understood, was
un account Jones had collected from
Pearlstille for some foreign mercan
tile establishment to the amount of
$37.80, receipted for in full by Jones,
bul never turned over to the credit
ors, as Pearlsline alleged. Pearl
stine, it seems, was endeavoring to
got this straight.
Jones refused and Pearlstino struck
-Iones with his list. Several blows
were passed. J. Marion Dy rd, the
postmaster, hearing tin? noise, rush
ed out into tho lobby, separating tho
belligerents and asking thom not to
light in the presence of his wife. Mr.
Penrlstlne apologized to Mr. Byrd,
?ind while assuring him that he was
very sorry for what had already hap
pened, Jones, who passed by the two
and was apparently leaving the post
?nico, stopped just inside of the
door, whirled, drew a pistol from his
hip-pocket, slipped the gun out of a
shield, and tired al Mr. Pearlstine,
who was still conversing with Mr.
Byrd. The ball struck Pearlstine in
the abdomen, and he reeled against
the door leading into tho postmaster's
private office, and a moment later foll
backward mi the door, where he
breathed his last le.is than five min
utes after the fatal shot.
Another Account.
'Orangeburg. Dec. 15.-J. J. Jones,
n lawyer, shot and killed Abe Pearl
stine, a merchant, at Branchville, at
10 o'clock this morning. Jones came
biue on the next train and gave him
self up.
An old grudge existed between the
two men, who are prominent Branch
ville residents. They met. in front
?of the Branchville post office and
angry words brought on a light.
Jones claims Pearlstine was beat
ing him with brass knucks, and that
he fired In self-defense.
Pearlstine died In 15 minutes.

A Christmas Carol.
Without tho drifting snows He (loop,
And winter winds are drear;
The stars their quiet vigils keep
Above tho dying year.
Within the flaming logs are piled
Ablaze with cherry glow;
Forget the tempest Horco and wild,
The winter's ice and snow.
And there around that ruddy blaze,
The happy voices sing
In notes of gratitude and praise,
A carol to their King.
A carol from that joyous hand,
To celebrate the hirth
Of Him who showers with bounteous

Good will and peace on earth.
And so kindly love abound,
All strife and turmoil cease;

Of gladness, Joy and peace.
