Rock HUI. Dec. 12.-It was learn
ed here to-day upon good authority
that J. Henry Garrison, of Gray
Court, Laurens county, who was at
the recent term of court in Laurens
convicted of manslaughter with rec
ommendation to the mercy of the
court and later sentenced to two
years in the penitentiary, has gone to
Columbia and surrendered to the
prison authorities for tho purpose of
serving lils sentence.
It will be understood that late In
July of this year, while J. Louis Wil
liamson, a prominent and well con
nected young fanner of Ibis county,
was calling upon his fiancee, Garri
son's daughter, at her home, Garri
son In an oversuspicious moment
slipped up to the window near which
Gie young couple was peated and fired
a load of shot into Williamson's side,
causing lils death in a few hours.
After the trial, which was attended
by quite a number of Influential citi
zens of York, Garrison was released
on bond pending an appeal of the
case.
Mr. Williamson's family and many
friends here have watched with great
interest the developments of thc case,
and lt wa? rumored that the convict
ed man had decided to abandon the
appeal and serve his sentence. This
was not confirmed, however, until to.
day.
Garrison Not in Penitentiary.
Laurens, Doe. l l. The report in
yesterday's daily papers that J. H.
Garrison had abandoned his appeal
for a new trial, and had already gone
lo the penitentiary to serve his sen
tence for Hie killing of J. Louis Wil
liamson, of the Bethesda neighbor
hood, near Kock I lill, is erroneous.
The correspondent of ibo News and
Courier made Inquiry to-day ni the
Clerk's oflleo, and found thal Mr.
Garrison had nol applied for com
mitment papers, which will be neces
sary boforo he could begin lils sen
tence. Mr. Garrison was in Laurens
Saturday. While it is understood
generally, and the rumor ls well
