AS TO TU I ; COTTON EXCHANGES
W. ll. Thompson Hays Tiley Help-A
IMalnTalk by IC. D. Smith.
Hallas, Texas, Feb. 20.-The fea
ture of the fl rat (lay's proceedings ol
the mumal convention of the South
ern Cotton Association was the ad
dress of W. B. Thompson, whoso sub
ject was "The Functions of Legiti
mate Cotton Exchanges " Mr. Thomp
son was frequently interrupted by
questions from delegates.
Tho substance of his address was
that the New Orleans cotton ex
Chango was an Indispensable adjunct
to the cotton raising industry of thc
South in that lt furnishod a market
where the seller may yost tho price
he ?8 willing to tako and the buyer
may post what he ls willing to pay
for the stuplu. He declared against
nambling wi e<-e no actual cotton was
Involved, but favored dealing lu fu
ll r.'s, saying thal this was absolutely
necessary.
Several delegates replied to Air.
Thompson. B. W. Marston, of East
Point, La., declared that the distinc
tion which Mr. Thompson attempted
to draw between au exchange and a
bucket shop "was the difference be
tween tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum."
J. A. Taylor, of Guthrie, Okla., R.
R. Dnncy, of Houston, Texas, and M.
L. Johnson, of Cass Station, Ga.,also
Joined in the discussion.
E. D. Smith, of Columbia, S. C.,
declared that In going after tho buck
etshops the convention was allow
ing itself to be switched from tho
real Issue. "Men get rich by attend
ing to their own business," he de
clared. "Let us attend to our busi
ness by proceeding to make arrange
ments to warehouse and finance the
cotton. What somebody In Liverpool,
or New York, or New Orleans may
write oil a piece ot tissue paper about
the price of cotton is no concern of
ours."

A weak stomach means weak
stomach nerves, always. And this ls
also true of the heart and kidneys.
It's a pity that sick ones continue to
drug the stomach or stimulate the
heart and kidneys. The weak nerves
-not the organs themselves-need
this help. This explains why Dr.
Shoop*s Restorative has, and is
promptly helling so many sick ones.
It goes dlr^ -t to the cause of these
diseases. Test this vital truth, and

How to Get the Greatest
It is a well-known
scientific fact that in
order to produce the
very greatest possible
yield from any soil it
must contain an actual
excess over and above
all demands that can
possibly be made on it
by the plants.
Many farmers will feed their
stockas much nourishing food
as they can possibly assimi
late, yet will starve their crops
on the mistaken notion that
they arc "economizing" on fer
tilizer. The experiences of
fanners, government experts,
and agricultur
alists every
where confirm
thc fact that
plants, like ani
mals, need thc
fullest possible
amount of nour
ishment that
they can obtain
if they are to bc
developed to the utmost.
The economy in fertilizers
is not in the amount used but
in the ratio of quality to cost.

Heart Strength
Heart Strength, or He? rt Weakness, means Nerve
Strength, or Nerve Weakness-nothlift more. Pos
itively, not ono weak heart In a hundred ii, tn it
self, actually diseased. It ls almost always a
hidden tiny little nerve that really ls all at fault.
Tots obscure nerve-the Cardiac, or Heart Marve
-simply needs, and must have, more power, more
stability, more controlling, more govomlng
strength. Without that the Heart must continue
to fail, and tb? stomach and kidneys also have
tasse same ootrtrolUnj nerves.
This clearly explains why. as a medicine. Dr.
Shoop's Bes toratlva has la the past done so much
for weak and ailing Hearts. Dr. 6 hoop first sought
the c?use of all this painful, palpitating, tuffocat
lnjr heart distress. Dr. Snoop's Restorative- ibis
popular prescription-1# alone directed to these
weak and wasting nerve centers. It builds;
