Powell was con victed at the Greenville Court ol' distill ing and a sealed sentence was left. -Mr. Richard Orubbs, of Fail' Play, shot and killed a hawk one day last wook that measured four feet, from tip to tip of wings. Mr. d ubbs w as sitting on a horse and the hawk was Hying when ho shot ami killed it at a distance of 70 or 80 yards. -Tho news of tho dav is made up hor ribly, and very largely, of murders, homicides, robberies, rapes and divers other deeds of violence. His manner of speak ing, his earnestness and enthusiasm, hold the andienet; riveted to tho lecturer. Kev. Mr. Royall expects soon to return to his work in Chius, and during his vacation is lecturing on tho subject of missions in order to increase tho interest in the loreign mission. Callas died at his homo in West Union last Saturday ovoiiing, Do iombor 1st. Hu had boon ill for sovoral wooka. Ho was troparcd for tho end and died as ho had lived, trusting in Hod and confident of a flossed eternity. Mr. Calla? was a con liatent member of tho West Union Hap ?st church. When tho Walhalla laptist church was organized ho became >no of its charter inembors.
