The program of our (Methodist) church was carried out in full. Tbe children did their part well. A class of ten little tots rendered tho "Little Foxes and Lit tle Hunter" admirably and almost to perfection. After tho program was gone through with Mr. J. li. byles addressed the school to the delight and edification nf all present. After which we wore treated to a very line address by Kev. Two sons have enlisted in tho army, one hoing the Chaplain of a Virginia Regiment, and another Surgeon in a Florida Regiment. One of thc most pleasant and uniquo social events of the season was a "Pro posal Barty," given by Miss Lillian Ver nor last Friday evening at tho residenco of ber father, Mr. J. 1). Vernor, near Walhalla. A number of guests assembled in tho parlor and were, entertained in various ways for a timo, and then all wv re invited into a spacious dining room to partake of a bountiful repast of refreshments. The room was beauti fully decorated with tho national colors and numerous Hags, both the Stars and Stripes and tho Cuban. On returning to tho parlor Mrs. J, M. Strother' took charge of those assembled in tho room, and, with walch in hand, allowed each of the young men three minutes in which to "propose" to each of tho young ladies present. Some of the young men, judg ing from tho number of votes thoy re ceived for the best proposals, aro adepts in that linc, and two, judging from the vote on tho poorest, are not. This was tho novel feature of the entertainment, ami was greatly enjoyed by all.
