Tho Climate of Cuba. Tho contemplated invasion of Cuba by tho United Stn tos army venders cf special interest at tills timo tho data which Mr. W. P. lt. Phillips, ono of tho subordinate I olllcors of tho United .States department | of agriculture, has roeoutly compiled, showing tho climatic conditions which provail on tho island. On tho basis of observations mado annually during tho nant ton years Mr. Phillips slates that tho averago tempera ture of Havana in July, which is tho warmest month in tho yoar, is 82.4 degrees Fahrenheit. Within tho samo period of timo the coldest .Inly measured 81.7 degrees, and tho warmest ?Inly 83.5 degrees. There Kit many pointa in this immediate section which almost equal this record. Mr. Phillips shows that tho averago .Inly tomporatnro for Wash ington, 1). C., is not less than 75 degrees, and that the average temperature for Now Orleans, La., is not less than 81.0 degrees. This sam? authority states that tho highest tomporatnro recorded in ton yoars at Havana reached only 100.0 degrees, and that at tho samo timo tho highest temperature recorded in different parts of tho south reached as high as 101 degrees. In tho following tablo Mr. Phillips gives tho averago tompcraturo for oaoh month of tho year at Havana, basing his ligures upon tho ollioiul observations mado during tho past ton yoars at Helen college, ono of tho few educational insti tutions of Cuba: Months. 1888-07. January. 70.3 February. 72.0 March. 73.2 April. 70 1 May. 78.8 Juno. 81.5 July. 82.4 August. 82.2 Septombor. 80.7 Oetobor. 78.1 November. 75.3 Dooomhnr. 71.4 Year. 70.3 So mud) for thc temperature of Cuba? While the figures cited in tho foregoing tablo apply strictly to Havana, thoy also represent generally tho condition which provail at Santiago, Matanzas and other points. With respect to Cuba's rainfall, Mr. Phillips shows that tho amount of precipitation is groatost during tho months oxtending from May to Oetobor, and least during tho months extending from Oetobor to May. Of tho months comprising llio wot season, July and Oetobor aro commonly attonded by tho heaviest showors. Observations extend* ing over tho past ton yoars fix tho amount of precipitation at tho yearly averago of 51.6 inchos, of which 35.4 j inches is credited to tho wot season an*' I 20. linches to tho dry season, showinc that tho difforonoe is not quito so groat as is commonly supposed. With respect to tho absoluto humidity of tho atmosphere at Havana, it varies from (1.2 grains of vapor per cubic foot in January, when it is least, to 8.0 grains of vapor por oubio foot in Septem or, when it is groatost. Other data is regard to Cuba may not bo out of place in this connection. In extremo longth tho island, which is oros cent shaped, measure? 780 miles, and in width only eighty miles, tho iattor distance, of courue, hoing avoraged. WASHWCITON, Juno 12.-Tho farmers, of tho l J H i Lcd States aro drawing upon other parts of tho world for moro money in the fiscal year which ondB with this month than in any procoding yoar in tho history of tho country. Evon tho high water TT.U1? of 1802, whoa our exports of ?grioultur?. produots amounted to $700, 829,232, wil, bo nurpasBod by tho record of tho yoar wMoh closes with this month. Prolfmiunry voports of May exports which have reached tho bureau of statis tics make lt quito apparent that tho agri cultural exports of tho yoar will bo oon sldornbly in excess of $800,000,000, tko total for tho year hoing'likoly to roach $835,000,000. Novor boforo havo tho exports of agri cultural produots roached tho $800,000,000 lino, and novor but twico havo tboy boon ns much as $700,000,000, and two occa sions in willoh thoy passed tho $700,000, 000 lino hoing in 1881 and 1802. Com pared with last fiscal year tho iuoreaao in oxporla of agricultural products will bo fully $150,000,000, and compared with tho procoding yoar tho increase will bo ovor $250,000,000, whilo tho total will bo fully 50 por cont in oxcosa of that of tho fiscal yoar 1805. In breadstuff's alone tho oxports of tho yoar will amount to nearly $1,000,000 for each Imsiiless, day and will bo moro than $100,000,000 in oxcoBB of last yoar's ox ports of broadstufTs. Noa ri y all articles classed na broadatuffa havo participated in thia increase. Of wheat tho valuo of tho oxports for tho fiscal yoar 1808 will bo moro than*double thoso of tho fiscal ?oar 1807, whilo tho incienso in Hour will o nearly 50 por cont and of corn nearly 50 por cont in value. May exports of corn woro largor than thoso of any othor month in the history of tho country, whilo tho total exporta of corn for tho year for tho first timo will pass tho 200, 000,000 bushel lino, tho total in only throo preceding years having roached 100,000, 000 buahols. Coin moni, oata and oat moat and ryo show a striking increase, tho gain in oat meal being more than 00 per cont ovor last year and that of oats 100 por cont, whilo in ryo the gain ia also phonombially largo. In "provisions," in which torin nro included hoof, hog and dairy product?, thoro is also a marked increaso, tho total exporta of provibions for tho year being likely to roach $100,000,000 In valuo. Most of this increase, howevor, ia in bog products, exportations of bacon, which woro $31,187,147 in value last year, being likely to roach $11,000,000 this year, and lard showing a similar increaso, hoing likoly to reach $37,000,000 this year, or a gain of nearly $8,000,000. Elvo beef seems to bo gaining in popu larity with our foreign customurs, tho oxports of hoof oattlo having increased materially, while thoso of hoof, oithor frosh, canned or salt, havo failed to show any increaso, in most casca a decided falling ott hoing noticoablo. Tho exports of hoof cattlo during tho first ton months of tho fiscal year ? woro 370,003, against 310,178 in tho correspond ing months of last year, whilo fresh hoof in tho snnio period foll from 242,108,031 pounds in ton months of 1807 to 227,434, 373 pounds in tho corresponding tun months of 1808. Salted hoof BIIOWS a fall of 35 por cont for tho year, and canned hoof from 40,310,000 pounds in tho ton months of 1807 to 31,011,120 poonda in tho ton months of 18:18. DISCOVERS /"BY A WOMAN. Tho llouso recoded from its proposed incronso of tonnngo taxoa on foreign shipping, probably because it might have intorforod with our friendly relations with Croat britain. Tho Sonato recodes from its amendment, laying stamp laves on gooda which aro sold undor trado marka or oxcbi8ivo patents. Among tho moat important Sonato amendments which stand aro thoso taxing toa ten couta a pound, taxing adulterated Hour, sleeping car and parlor car tickets, tho gross rccoipts of potrolium and augar rofiiiiiig companies in excess of $250,000, tho bax on bnukers, brokora and theatre proprietors in citica of moro than 25,000 population. And tho dollars BO coined "sholl bo used ami applied in tim mannor and for tho purposes named in said Aot." It will bo observed that tho taxes levied by thia Act aro mainly on articles of luxury.
