sation has been and is greater in this
campaign than over heretofore, yet it
behooves every Democrat and patriotic

aggressive, and, in some instances, the

flict gets much warmer. A serious split

preferences, as between Tillman, Karte

lutions were adopted :
Whereas, on the 27tl) day of
March ultimo, a convention assembled
in the city of Columbia under the call
of G. W. Shell and others, assuming
to represent the Farmers' Association
of South Carolina, and suggested to
tho people candidates for Governor
and Lieutenant Governor; and
whereas the leaders of the move
ment tims inaugurated have assailed
the integrity of the Democratic
party of South Carolina in its ad
ministration of the affairs of thc
government of the State, and have
charged its chosen ami trusted offi
cials with extravagance, imbecility,
debauchery and perjury; and where
as it is believed and eonlideiitly as
serted that the affairs of the State
since IS7G have been administered
with ability, with justioo, with un
impeachable integrity, in .strict com
pliance with the demands of thc
platforms of the Democratic party,
and in faithful obedience to the re
quirements of the Constitution and
laws of the Slate; and whereas in
the prosecution ol* the issues thus
presented, without precedent ami
without justification, prejudices have

been engendered which jeopardize
the unity and solidity of the Demo
cratic party, and which imperil tin
maintenance of white supremacy in

litary election held hy tiny political

the purpose ol' choosing candidates
for ellice, or the election ol' del?galos

over and conducted in Hie manner
prescribed hy the rules ol' the politi
cal porty organization or association,

?ers shall, before entering upon ibo

and subscribe an outil that he will

They shall then close and lock or
seal up such box, except the opening
to receive the ballots, and shall not
again open the same until th6 (dose
of thc election. They shall keep a
poll list, willi thc name of each voter
voting in such elections, and shall
before receiving any ballot adminis
ter to the voter an oath that ho is
duly qualified to vote according to
the rules ol' thc party, and that he
has not voled before in such election;

shall proceed publicly to count the
votes and declare tho result; they
shall certify the result of such elec
