A SMALLPOX REMEDY.-At tho timo
of the small pox scare, in 1872, when Bos
ton was80 sorely afflicted, a rcoipo for a
remedy was twioo published in tho Hart
ford Times, and sotno ono in Boston obtain
ed u copy accompanied by a letter from thc
cditoro who stated that there wcro pcoplo in
Hartford who oould vouch for its efficiency.
It was said that a person who tried it in
Ohio in a caso of confluent small-pox,
where tho doctor had little hope, found
that it saved tho pitiont's lifo. Other
oases were then tried and overy ono was
successful. Tho remedy was suid to bo
equally euro in scarlet fovcr, and to pro
vont or euro tho smallpox, ovon though
tho pillings were diing. The rooipe was
as follows:
""Sulphoto of zinc, ono grain; foxglove
(digitalis,") one groin; half a teaspoonful of
sugar; when thoroughly mixod add four
ounces of water. Tuko a spoonful every
hour. Either disease will disappear in 12
hours. Por a child, smaller dosos, accord
ing to age."
Of this rcoipo a physician said:
"Whoo Jonncr disoovcrod cow pox in
England, tho world of soicnoo burled an
avalanche of famo upon bis head; whon
tho most scientific school of medicino in
tho world-that of Paris-published this
panacea for smallpox it pissed unheeded.

remedy should not bo mero widely known, if
