Within oight miles of Walhalla, there rises
tho- long, lovel ridge of a mountain, some
1,600 footabove tho lovol of the sea, end 700
feet above tho lovol of tho town itself, pre

loveliness, traversed by streams aud rivulets
of puro, olear, ioy water, grovoa of magnifi
cent forest trees, beautiful sites for couutry
houses-within' a few milos of streams
?bounding in fish and woods with dcor aud

?nd visitors aro as raro as Fifteenth Amend
ments. Now and then, it is said, a few curi
ous people undertake to do thc mountain nnd
